Modern Family - Earthquake - Recap

It's business as usual for the families as they bicker throughout their mornings but things get crazy when an earthquake hits. Jay and Gloria are in the middle of an argument over Jay's refusal to go to church when it happens. Gloria sees this as a sign that God is angry with Jay but Jay just sees it as the reason he's late for golf. Manny decides to go with him so he can hear about Jay's thoughts of life. He questions him about heaven and hell and Jay immediately regrets opening his mouth when Manny hyperventilates in the golf cart.

Claire finds herself trapped in the bathroom with a plumber when the earthquake hits and jams the door. Phil, realizing it may not be such a bad thing that Claire is stuck in the bathroom, tries to keep her in there for as long as possible by delaying trying to get her out. He knows a verbal bashing from her is imminent because he lied about anchoring a cabinet that practically decapitated Luke.

Cam and Mitchell are all dressed up in schnazzy outfits for a friend's costume party. An ex boyfriend of Cam, Pepper, guest star Nathan Lane, has a themed brunch that Mitchell would rather avoid. Mitchell is thrilled that the earthquake gives him an excuse to cancel on the brunch but is less than thrilled when Cam proves he's an awful liar. His crappy white lie results in Pepper coming over to their house instead. Mitchell frantically breaks things around the house so their lie is plausible while Cam decides to tell Pepper the truth. Pepper is distraught his friends wanted to cancel on him so Cam begs Mitchell to use his lying skills to save the situation. Mitchell thinks up that Cam wanted to avoid the party because he still has feelings for Pepper. Who wouldn't want a piece of that?
