Modern Family - Dude Ranch/When Good Kids Go Bad - Recap

The families return from their sweep at the Emmy's and are on vacation at a Dude Ranch. The biggest moment of the episode at least for me, is the odd introduction of the new baby Lilly. Lilly isn't a baby anymore and she's walking and talking with no explanation. I miss the old one. Cam and Mitch are still excited to announce that they want to adopt a baby boy. Mitchell is worried that he's not manly enough to father a son. He makes it his mission to try and butch it up on the ranch. When things seem hopeless, he succeeds in bonding with Luke and together, they blow up a birdhouse. Were there birds inside??

Much to Claire's annoyance, Dylan has tagged along on the family outing to Wyoming. When Phil notices that Claire is spending most of her time wishing Dylan would walk off a cliff, he encourages her to be nicer to him. She tries for a little while but things go sour fast when Dylan proposes to Haley. Claire steps in and stops it before he can get the words out. Haley is furious and Dylan takes off to wander in the wilderness. The families split up to find him and when they do, he announces he'll be staying behind in Wyoming to work at the ranch.

Cam and Mitchell want to invite the family over to tell them about their plans to adopt a boy. Things are tense when Manny is accused by the principal of stealing a girl's locket. Jay makes him confess and Gloria takes him to school to return it. She doesn't want to see her boy get punished so she breaks in to the girl's locker, puts the necklace inside and runs. Jay knows they aren't telling the truth and makes Manny sweat it out at dinner until he confesses. Jay proves to the room that Claire is so nutty because of him.

Lilly has been very vocal about not wanting a new sibling and even goes as far as punching random babies that get too close to her daddies. Cam worries that Lilly is acting out because he has been coddling her and make it his mission to step back. It's obviously very hard for him to not be around her 24/7 (LOL at him holding her hand while he's in the shower) but Mitchell thinks it's the right thing to do. Mitchell has been keeping a secret that Lilly's actions could also be a result of his own lack of sharing. Mitchell confesses to Cam at dinner and lets slip their plans to adopt.
