Modern Family - Dance Dance Revelation - Recap

The families are gearing up to help Manny and Luke get ready for their first school dance. Manny is obsessing over the perfect color coordinated suit and Luke doesn't even have one. This requires a trip to the mall with Phil and Jay. Jay gets increasingly frustrated with Phil's lack of aggression and thinks he lets people walk all over him. Phil tries not to let it get to him when Jay berates him for letting someone steal their parking space and cut in front of them in line. Personally, I hate when people do that but I'm afraid of confrontation.

Phil snaps and walks out of the store and Jay shows the boys how to stand up to people when he spots the guy who stole their parking spot. What he does do however is make the guy burst into tears in the middle of the store because his dog just died. That was a really awkward time to bring that up to a stranger wasn't it? Phil walks through the mall with Jay's voice in his head telling him he's a wuss and lets his anger out at a cologne sample salesman. The guy sprays him in the face with the cologne so Phil grabs the bottle and chases him through the store. The guy runs away screaming and Phil lands in mall jail.

Claire and Gloria clash over setting up and running the school dance. It's been Claire's thing for so many years and she's enjoyed the spotlight that it gives her. The last thing she wants to do is have her hotter family member steal her thunder. Gloria can't help but do that when her suggestions are better and she's more likeable to the rest of the staff. Claire gets upset and tells Gloria that for some reason she can't co exist or share anything with her. Gloria is too understanding in my opinion and tries to explain she just wanted the teachers and parents to get to know her for more than her looks.

Mitch and Cam receive unwanted news when they take Lily to the park. She's a biter. They vehemently deny the possibility when a parent approaches them to let them know their child was just bitten by Lily. They're shocked however when Cam gets bitten by Lily in the car and rush home to figure things out. They start to bicker and blame each other because obviously, it's their fault that she's a biter. They battle over how to properly discipline her and end up wrestling with a pepper shaker in the kitchen. Cam would rather teach her with a song and Mitch would rather take internet advice and put pepper in her mouth. How would you stop a baby from biting? How much can they understand at that age? I laughed out loud when Mitch bit Cam's hand when he came at him with the pepper.

Cam: I can assure you, if our child did something like that we would be on her like white on rice. I know that sounds a little bit like a racial slur because we're white and she presumably likes rice but I didn't intend it that way.

Claire: Gloria suggested an Arabian nights theme. Isn't it a little soon?

Cam: She bit me again! It's like Twilight back here.
