Modern Family - Airport 2010 - Recap
It's Jay's birthday and he's excited when he learns that Gloria is surprising him with a trip to Hawaii. A week of doing nothing but laying on the beach is ruined when Gloria reveals she's full of surprises. She's invited the whole family to come along with them. Jay couldn't be more thrilled that he's paying for his entire family to come with them so he puts on a happy face. When he learns that Gloria's idea of a birthday celebration is hiking up a volcano every day and watching some whales he fears that she's deliberately trying not to spend time with him. The trip is anything but smooth sailing from the get go with the entire family snapping under all the stress.
Cam and Mitchell arrive fashionably late after a bickering match back at the house when an unhelpful Cam doesn't sense Mitchell's stress on his own. Believe me, you need to spell things out for men. Things get worse when Mitchell realizes he left his wallet at home and won't be able to board the plane without it. He blames Cam right away for stressing him out and Phil volunteers to hurry and drive him back home to get his wallet.
Things are tense between Claire and Phil before the flight. Claire is dreading the trip due to a fear of flying and her kids aren't making it any easier on her. Haley oversleeps and leaves her boyfriend trapped in the house, Luke is Luke, and Phil isn't as supportive as he could be. When Phil leaves her alone at the airport, she takes to getting drunk at the bar to calm herself. I loved the nod to her past Lost career in the airport scenes hahah.
A guard comes up to Manny and tells him his name is on a No Fly list. I guess they can't be too sure even if he's a suave little kid. Gloria's Colombian temper gets the best of her and almost gets herself in trouble after mentioning hiding a knife in some hold lady's cane. Jay finds them before anything else happens and is relieved when Gloria tells him the family is only staying for 6 days. They'll spend the rest of the vacation to themselves. He's thrilled his wife isn't sick of his wrinkly bald body and all is good again. They board the plane with a passed out Claire and make their way to Hawaii!
