Mister Rogers is coming to the silver screen.
Entertainment Weekly reports that a biopic based on journalist Tim Madigan’s 2006 memoir, I’m Proud of You, is in development from directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris (Little Miss Sunshine), writers Noah Harpster and Micah Fitzerman-Blue (The Motel Life), and financiers Big Beach Films.
The film will tell the story of Madigan’s "deep friendship with Rogers that spanned from 1995 until Rogers’ death in 2003. They met while Madigan was on assignment for a story, and continued to bond as Rogers helped him through depression and his relationship with his own father."
I'm Proud of You is not the only Rogers biopic currently in development: Treehouse Pictures is still in the script phase for A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, a film that will chronicle Rogers' early life and work. The project has no director attached, but Treehouse Pictures has affirmed that they are still moving forward with the project.
