Miley Cyrus Will Not Judge On American Idol
Miley Cyrus will not be a judge on American Idol, but don't despair, she will be coming to a television screen near you this fall.
Miley Cyrus is officially no longer being considered to fill one of the judging spots vacated by Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler. Cyrus was one of the early names being bandied about as a potential new judge, but according to E Online, she was never all that interested to begin with and talks didn't go very far.
Cyrus would have been interesting as a judge on a couple of fronts. She would have provided a country artist on the panel, which given the relative success of many of Idol's country contestants just makes sense and she's been through the ringer of being a young artist trying to make it in the biz, so she could have provided fresh perspective on that front.
Fans of the teen star can catch a glimpse of her when she makes a guest appearance on the CBS sitcom Two and a Half Men this fall.
So, if you're still keeping score, that leaves one confirmed judge: Mariah Carey
One "all but confirmed" judge: Nicki Minaj
Reportedly still under consideration judges: Kanye West, Keith Urban, Nick Jonas, Adam Lambert and Alanis Morisette (did I miss any? lol)
Mariah Carey also suggested Lenny Kravitz, but there has been no reports of official talks with the show.
The latest buzz seems to be that producers would like a four person panel, two men and two women, and Randy Jackson's role is still up in the air, with the long time judge possibly moving to a mentor role.
I like the idea of having a variety of genres represented on the panel, so of the people who we have been told are officially under consideration I think my ideal panel (assuming Nicki already has the job) would be:
Mariah, Nicki, Keith Urban & Nick Jonas giving us a pop diva, country star, a youngun and a hip hop artist.
Hopefully with the new season just a few short months off, we'll start getting some confirmations on the remaining judging spots soon.
