Miley Cyrus slams Disney: 'They Try To Make Someone Not Grow Up'

Over the years, Miley Cyrus has gone out of her way to distance herself from the squeaky-clean image she once cultivated as a Disney Channel star. As if to cement the transformation, the former Hannah Montana star has spoken out against Disney's practices.

In an interview with The Daily Star, the "We Can't Stop" singer addressed her G-rated past.

“I don’t think I’ve ever had to exorcise Hannah because I think people knew I was different from her in real life," said Cyrus. “Most people on Disney act as if they are really like their characters but I never felt the need to do that."

“They try to make someone not grow up but you can’t do that to real, normal people,” the singer continued. “You’d be amazed at the letters Disney get sent. They say stuff like ‘I can’t believe she spoke to her dad like that’ or ‘I can’t believe she wore that shirt’. ‘Why does the lead star have boobs?’ Err, because she’s a female. It’s crazy."

But Cyrus has largely moved on from her child star past, thanks to a provocative new image and a hit single to match. "We Can't Stop" is not only a hit in America, reaching #2 on the Billboard Hot 100, but it's also a smash overseas, reaching #1 in New Zealand and the U.K., a first for Cyrus on both counts. As evidenced by her bold new style, the singer is all about forging her own path in the industry.

“If I’m doing something I’m going to do it right but then once I’m away from it I’ll do it my way.”
