'Mighty Morphin Power Rangers' Movie Gets 2016 Release Date

The box office success of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, coupled with the even bigger numbers for Transformers: Age of Extinction, have translated into money for all things nostalgia. Thus, it's no surprise Lionsgate is putting a rush on its new, nostalgia-targeted project.

Lionsgate has revealed that it will release the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers movie on July 22, 2016. The movie, written by Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller (Thor) from a story by Roberto Orci (Star Trek), is a reinvention of the 1993 Fox Kids series centering on teenage kids imbued with incredible powers in the form of some snazzy outfits, giant robots, and sudden, inexplicable martial arts skills.

The release date will pit the film against Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur, and comes just one month after Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 is set to hit theaters. So yes, 2016 is already shaping up to be a pretty eclectic summer.
