Michelle MacLaren to Direct 'Wonder Woman'

Wonder Woman is getting her own movie, and who better to direct it than one of the most talented female directors in Hollywood?

Game of Thrones director Michelle MacLaren has signed on to develop and direct Wonder Woman for Warner Bros., working with the film's writers to flesh out the story. Although no writers have been officially hired just yet, they likely will take their cue for the movie from 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, where the character will make her big-screen debut. Wonder Woman will release the following year in 2017, with Man of Steel and Dawn of Justice director Zack Snyder producing alongside Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder.

Reportedly, there was internal pressure within Warner Bros. to find a woman to direct the film, given Wonder Woman's status as a symbol of female empowerment. However, the studio went back-and-forth on the matter, since no female director has taken on a blockbuster of this scale before. Ultimately, Warner Bros. went with MacLaren, whose resume speaks for itself. In addition to Game of Thrones, she's brought her talents to The Walking Dead and, most notably, to Breaking Bad (which she also produced, earning back-to-back Emmys in the process). In short, MacLaren knows good drama, and she knows how to craft it.

All in all, MacLaren is a terrific choice, considering the remarkable depth of her work and the passion she'll likely bring to the project with her hands-on involvement. Not only will she be integral in shaping not only this film, but the foundation for a potential Wonder Woman franchise.

Although, you know, no pressure or anything.
