Michael Phelps Wins Gold in his Final Olympic Race - Men's 4x100 Medley Relay - London 2012 Olympics - Medal Results
Team USA captured the gold medal in what Michael Phelps says was the final race in his storied Olympic career. Race details and gold medal results for the London 2012 Men's 4x100m Medley Relay to follow.
Matt Grevers started things off for team USA on the backstroke leg and handed a lead to Brendon Hanson, who swam the breast stroke portion of the race. Hanson lost a bit of ground to Japan's Kitajima, who swam a fantastic breast stroke leg. Phelps had to work hard on the butterfly leg to regain the lead, but he managed to do it on the 50m turn and handed a .5 second lead over to Adrian Nathan for the freestyle.
Team USA would never trail again, as Adrian pulled out to more than a body length lead and cruised home to victory. If Phelps sticks to his guns and retires he will end his career with 18 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze for a total of 22 Olympic medals, the most in history. This has been a fantastic Olympics for the U.S. swim team and an amazing way for perhaps the greatest swimmer in Olympic history to finish his career.
Results:
Gold: United States
Silver: Australia
Bronze: Japan
Congratulations to all the medal winners!
