Michael and Carissa Rae Alvarado become first act to be signed by a major label via Vine app

Michael and Carissa Rae Alvarado -- the duo called "Us" -- has been signed by Republic Records after promoting their music using 6-second clips on Vine.

The husband and wife duo "Us" had been promoting their music on YouTube, but four months ago, about the time Alex and Sierra became big on The X Factor USA, they started using Vine. In fact, I thought they were Alex and Sierra sometimes when I looked at my Vine feed (they've gotten re-Vined so frequently).

They got so popular on the video sharing app, it landed them an appearance on Good Morning America in late January this year. This caught the eye of a Republic Records executive and now they are going to re-release old music as well as new ones.

Congratulations!

From Billboard:

Republic Records has signed Us to a deal that will include a re-released version of "No Matter Where You Are" later this spring, with new mixes of the album's breezy Mumford-in-love gems like "Don't Lay Your Head," "Make You Mine" and "Come Back" currently under consideration. A new video of the album's title track and lead single is also in the works.

"There's a universality to what they're doing, and I don't think there's a glass ceiling to it," says Nate Albert, Republic's senior VP of A&R, who first met with the duo in early January. "Their songs are like walking through the birth of their relationship, and it's really rare that you see something that has that level of earnestness to it. These are songs that everybody can relate to, but there's an elegance to how they do it."
