'How I Met Your Mother' DVD To Have Alternate Ending

Some people are still very upset with the way How I Met Your Mother ended, while others have already moved on from all the controversy. But series co-creators Craig Thomas and Carter Bays are looking to extend the legend just a little bit farther.

Apparently, Bays and Thomas considered two possible endings that used the same footage shown in the finale, but cut in different ways as to essentially change what happens. We already saw the version that aired as the finale, as The Mother (Cristin Milioti) is dead and Ted (Josh Radnor) ends up with Robin (Cobie Smulders) despite the series doing its damndest to tell us Robin wasn't Ted's endgame. However, the second ending is something we'll have to buy the final season DVD set to see, since it's entirely exclusive to the boxed set.

Bays says the alternate ending is “very different,” but wouldn't specify beyond that frustratingly vague tease, which I guess is in keeping with the entire ethos behind How I Met Your Mother.

Then again, if this alternate ending doesn't deliver, there's always that fan-created ending.
