'How I Met Your Dad' Casting Notices Revealed

It's official! Casting is now underway for How I Met Your Dad, CBS's upcoming spinoff of How I Met Your Mother, which comes to an end in March after nine seasons on the network.

Casting notices have been released within the industry, as CBS looks to assemble the cast for the spinoff. In the lead role will be a twentysomething character named Sally, filling the Ted Mosby role of "Person Who Spends [X] Number of Years Telling Their Kids A Story That Should Only Take Maybe An Hour, Tops. And Also Telling Them About All The People They've Bung."

The notices call for actors for the following characters:

SALLY: Vibrant, messy, unpredictable, and colorfully ambivalent, Sally is described as a “female Peter Pan who has never grown up and has no idea of where she’s going in life.” But there's one significant different between Sally and Ted Mosby: Sally is already married. Turns out it's a dead-end marriage, and Sally is seriously considering calling it quits with her husband of one year, Gavin. With divorce looming, Sally will have to lean on her friends. Luckily, she has her own Robin, Lily, Marshall and Barney...

JULIET: Juliet seems like the Barney of the group. She's Sally’s sexy, flamboyant, party-girl best friend. But she's also a fashion maven, running her own successful fashion blog. And apparently, there's no one in the world who's happier about Sally's decision to ditch Gavin.

DANNY: Sally’s older gay brother is a Type A personality, a lawyer who has very little in common with his younger sister beyond genetics. However, they remain close regardless, even in the face of Sally’s decision to move in with Danny after splitting with Gavin -- a decision that will test the strength of their sibling bond.

TODD: Danny’s "warm, outgoing husband" and one of Sally’s best friends from college, Todd is thrilled to have Sally moving in with them, in stark opposition to Danny's more rigid position on the matter.

FRANK: Frank is the head of IT for Juliet’s fashion blog, and he's essentially described as "a hot nerd." He has feelings for Sally, but they go unrequited. Well, for now, anyway. So yeah, expect that to become an ongoing storyline (assuming the show is picked up to series).

NARRATOR: Future Sally, whose sole function is to recount these experiences to her kids and hopefully not keep them trapped in the family den for nine years to hear the whole story.

I'm a bit nervous about this spinoff, since I have such a deep-seated love for How I Met Your Mother, and these casting notices don't inspire much hope on my end. But I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this will turn out alright. I really want to this to be good.
