'The Mentalist' to Do Two-Year Time Jump

Patrick Jane is about to age two years within the span of a month.

In one of the most ambitious midseason narrative approaches any show has tackled in recent years, The Mentalist will have a major time jump following this Sunday’s resolution of the series-long Red John serial killer arc. Beginning with the Dec. 1 episode, the CBS crime drama will pick up two years after the CBI was dissolved amidst last week’s scandal, which revealed CBI director Gale Bertram's part in a massive criminal conspiracy -- a development that makes it likely he could be Red John himself.

The Mentalist airs at 10/9c on CBS.
