Men's Soccer Final - London 2012 Olympics - Results

Gold medal favorites Brazil took on Mexico in the Men's Soccer final at the London 2012 Olympics.  The match was played at Wembley stadium in front of 80,000 screaming fans.  This one came down to the very last few seconds.  A very exciting game!  I wish I could be partying with the winners tonight.

Here are your match details and medal results:

Oribe Peralta got Mexico off to a blazing start, scoring a surprise goal 36 seconds into the match, putting Mexico on top 1-0.  The Mexican goalkeeper made several nice saves to keep the club from Brazil scoreless in the first half.

Brazil came out guns a blazing in the second half, but a combination of tough defense, lead by Reyes, and bad kicks by Brazil kept the Brazilian team scoreless.

Marco Fabian had a golden opportunity to put Mexico up 2-0 at around the 64 minute mark, but rushed his kick and it bounced off the goal post. Oribe Peralta looked to have a second goal for Mexico a few minutes later, but he was called off sides and the goal didn't count.

Near the 75 minute mark, Peralta would strike again for Mexico, this time off a free kick.  Goal! Mexico is up 2-0!

Reyes continued his fantastic defense for the Mexican team.  Hulk finally scored a goal for Brazil 53 seconds into added time to make the score 2 - 1 and give Brazil some hope of a come back.   2:40 into extra time, Oscar had an excellent shot to tie it up for Brazil, but his header sailed by the net.  Mexico would hold on to win!  What an upset!

Mexico wins their first Olympic gold medal in the sport of football.  Brazil settles for silver.

S. Korea won the bronze medal match over Japan earlier in the day.
