If you were a husky kid who wanted to play sports, chances are you either got shuffled into football or one of the field events. In the men's shot put, a bunch of very husky, very strong looking guys competed to see who could hurl a heavy lead ball the farthest.
The two Americans made a good showing of it, with Hoffa winning the bronze and Cantwell finishing right behind him in fourth. The day belonged to Tomasz Majewski of Poland, who interestingly doesn't use the spinning technique employed by most of the top competitors.
Results:
Gold: Tomasz Majewski - Poland
Silver: David Storl - Germany
Bronze: Reese Hoffa - United States
Congratulations to all the medalists!
