Men's 50k Race Walk - London 2012 Olympics - Results

The longest distance foot race at the London 2012 Olympics, the Men's 50k Race Walk, took place this morning.

Here are your medal results:

Race walking is a funny sport, there's just no way around it.  It looks funny.  The rules are a little funny.  The objective seems a bit odd and for some reason watching this event kept reminding me of that great quote from the movie Juno "all I see are pork swords."   However, you have to have some respect for any athlete who can race hard over 50 kilometers.  That's 10 kilometers longer than a marathon!

The lead changed hands a number of times over the course of the three plus hour race, but the eventual winner, Russian Sergey Kirdyapkin, would hold the lead for most of the last hour or so.  He would go on to set a new Olympic record time of 3:35:59 and win the gold medal.  Jared Tallent of Australia and early leader Si Tianfeng of China would walk personal best times to take silver and bronze.

Results:

 Gold: Sergey Kirdyapkin - Russia

Silver: Jared Tallent - Australia

Bronze: Si Tianfeng - China

Congratulations to all the medal winners!
