Men's 5000m - London 2012 Olympics - Results
Mohamed Farah would attempt to win his second gold medal for Team GB in the Men's 5000m race at the London 2012 Olympics. Bernard Lagat was the top U.S. runner in the event.
Here are your medal results:
Mohamed Farah started to make his move with three laps to go in the race. As the crowd roared him on, he took the lead and appeared to be well on his way to winning, however he would face a strong charge from Thomas Pkemei Longosiwa of Kenya in the last lap. The two would battle neck and neck for most of the lap. It looked like Longosiwa was going to win the battle and pass Farah, but Farah dug down deep and pulled back out in front. Longosiwa appeared to run out of gas and faded to third.
It wasn't over yet. Dejen Gebremeskel of Ethiopia would try to run down Farah in the home stretch. Farah kicked it into high gear and ran away from the final challenge, to claim his second gold of the London games. An exciting and hard fought race. Congrats Team GB!
Bernard Lagat would finish in fourth for team USA.
Results:
Gold: Mohamed Farah - Great Britain
Silver: Dejen Gebremeskel - Ethiopia
Bronze: Thomas Pkemei Longosiwa - Kenya
Congratulations to all the medal winners!
