Men's 4x400 Relay - London 2012 Olympics - Results

Team USA almost didn't make the finals of the Men's 4x400 relay at the London 2012 Olympics.  Thanks to a courageous performance by Manteo Mitchell, who ran the last 200 meters of his 400 meters on a broken leg during an earlier round, the United States managed to get into the final and compete for gold.

Here are your medal results:

Heading into the home stretch of the anchor leg of the race, it looked like Team USA would get a story book ending to go along with all the drama surrounding Manteo's broken leg finish.  However, it wasn't to be.  In spite of turning in their season's best time, the U.S. just could not hold off the anchor of the Bahamas team.  Miller would surge towards the line, as Taylor appeared to run out of steam and the Bahamas would end up winning the race by a few steps.

A great effort by Team USA to win the silver.  Both the Bahamas and Trinidad & Tobago, who took the bronze, set new national records for their teams.

In spite of their eighth place finish (Cuba did not finish due to injury), the team from South Africa also grabbed a piece of history as Oscar Pistorius a.k.a. "The Bladerunner" ran their anchor leg, becoming the first paraplegic runner to complete an Olympic final with "able bodied" runners.  A truly inspiring story!

Results:

Gold: Bahamas

Silver: The United States

Bronze: Trinidad & Tobago

Congratulations to all the medalists!
