Men's 10,000m - London 2012 Olympics - Medal Results

Team GB went for their first ever gold medal in the 10,000 meters at the London 2012 Olympics.  See how Team GB and U.S. hopeful Galen Rupp did in your race details and medal results.

Team GB has had some incredible highs (rowing & cycling) and some disappointing lows (swimming & cycling) in the first week of Olympic competition.  Tonight, they hoped to erase the disappointment of a poor showing in the pool with their first ever gold medal in the 10,000 meters event.

Things looked rocky for Mohamed Farah for much of the race.  He stumbled a few times.  He got bounced around in the crowd.  He just didn't seem himself.  But with four laps to go, he turned on the jets and showed off that famous closing speed. The 10,000 meter race came down to an all out sprint in the final lap.  The finish was close, but in the end Farah would emerge triumphant, with perhaps a bit of an assist from his U.S. training partner Galen Rupp, who would claim the silver.

One of the great moments of the games for the host nation and a great performance from the American as well.  Team GB picked up gold medals in rowing, cycling and track today, making for one of the best days at any Olympic games for Great Britain.

Results:

Gold: Mohamed Farah - Great Britain

Silver: Galen Rupp - United States

Bronze: Tariku Bekele - Ethiopia

Congratulations to all the medalist!
