Meg Ryan Cast as the Bob Saget of 'How I Met Your Dad'

How I Met Your Mother just ended, but fan backlash over the finale has in no way tempered plans to move forward with the upcoming spinoff. Case in point, the show has just scored a major casting coup.

Meg Ryan has joined the cast of How I Met Your Dad in the Bob Saget role of "Future Version of the Protagonist Whose Inexplicable Presence Makes No Sense, Since the Protagonist Is Already An Adult. It's Not Like She's Going to BECOME Meg Ryan." But I digress.

The casting is one more feather in HIMYD's cap. While the show has yet to receive a series order from CBS, big signings like this certainly help raise its profile. By the time Upfronts arrive in May, it could just find itself on the Fall Schedule for the 2014-2015 broadcast season.

In addition to playing Future Greta Gerwig, Ryan recently signed on to executive produce and star in a new comedy for NBC in which she'll play "a devoted and nonconfrontational single mother who returns to her New York publishing house, where she was once a brilliant editor. Of course, things have changed since she left and her former intern Brenda is now her 30-year-old boss. Now, she has to find a way to keep her neurotic boss, her teenage kids, her soon-to-be ex-husband and her overbearing mother-in-law happy, which always seems to lead to her overcomplicating every situation." So yeah, a lot on Ryan's plate. But if Bob Saget's role on HIMYM is anything to go by, at least she won't have to worry about cutting time out of her schedule to appear in the finale.
