Maya Angelou dead at 86
Revered poet, writer, actress, filmmaker, educator & civil rights activist Maya Angelou has passed at age 86.
She was found by her caretaker in her home in Winston Salem, N.C.
According to sources, Angelou had missed out on many recent scheduled appearances due to health reasons.
Dropping out of high school at 14, she became San Francisco's first cable car driver and gained acclaim for the autobiography I Know Why the Caged Bird sings. Angelou received over 50 honorary degrees from universities and over the past few years as she was a lifetime professor of American Studies at Wake Forest University.
She also won multiple Grammy and Tony awards.
RIP to Dr. Angelou. Her accomplishments and contributions to society can surely not even be documented in this report. I will continue to keep her family and loved ones in my prayers as her legacy continues on.
