The quick editorial on Matt Giraud: So what happened to Michael Slezak, Jim Cantiello and the rest of the American Idol Season 8 fans and Idols trying to #signmattgiraud? Are we (the "Idol fanbase") just ineffective? Did we believe our own press? Our inflated Twitter numbers?

Matt probably wouldn't have been invited to Taste of Kalamazoo were it not for American Idol -- but this is really not that big a step away from his local gig in a bar a couple of years ago. He's just keeping his name out there. Has he been trying to live off that single with Anne Wilson? (Incidentally, Matt's past albums from 2003 and 2006 are now on iTunes - so maybe he's been living off those).

For a majority of these former Idols, the greatest moment of their careers was being on the show itself. After that, it's just been one steady stream of disappointment for the fans.

Matt should look into how Taylor Hicks has been able to make a living doing what he likes to do "under the radar" selling one CD at a time in small venues. Maybe that's really the way to go, who knows.
