Matt Damon Does Ice Bucket Challenge With Toilet Water (VIDEO)
It's been a little more than two weeks now, but the Ice Bucket Challenge -- in support of those suffering from ALS -- continues to take social media by storm, with all sorts of celebrities agreeing to both dump a bucket of ice water over their heads, and donate to ALS research. Of course, for every celebrity who donates to the cause, there seems to be just as many people complaining about challenge videos cluttering their Facebook feeds, or wondering why we're all pouring perfectly good drinking water on ourselves.
As if hearing those complaints, Matt Damon decided to not only answer the challenge, but to add his own twist: he's using toilet water instead.
Damon answered the challenge after being called out by buddies Jimmy Kimmel and Ben Affleck, who nominated him for the undertaking. In accepting, Damon intended to show his support to both ALS and his own nonprofit, Water.org. The organization, which he co-founded, centers on providing clean drinking water and sanitation to underprivileged areas of the world. So it probably shouldn't be all that surprising that Damon opted to use toilet water to answer the challenge -- clean toilet water, sure; but toilet water nonetheless.
"I co-founded Water.org, and we envision the day when everybody has access to a clean drink of water -- and there are about 800 million people in the world who don't -- and so dumping a clean bucket of water on my head seemed a little crazy," Damon says in the video. He later goes on to nominate George Clooney ("my favorite actor"), Bono ("my favorite musician") and Tom Brady ("the greatest quarterback of all-time") to tackle the challenge next. It's a pretty amusing video and well worth the watch. Damon has always come across like a real stand-up guy, and I'm sure his support will contribute significantly to the more than $79.7 million that has been raised for ALS research.
