Matilda, the multiple Tony-winning stage musical that opened on the West End in 2010 is in the process of becoming a movie.

You know, even though that already kind of exists.

Regardless of this information, the singing and dancing adaptation of Roald Dahl's much-loved children's book turned movie turned musical will eventually be turned into a movie-musical based on the play by Tim Minchin.

"It'll be different from what we did on stage," director Matthew Warchus revealed. "Matilda's imagination lends itself very much to film. We can open up her amazing acrobat stories and there will be the conundrum of trying to capture the naughtiness and anarchy of the stage version."

A screenplay will be started next year by playwright Dennis Kelly and composer and comedian Tim Minchin may be working on some new songs for the film.

However, Matilda the movie-musical can't possibly be on the big screen until 2019, as films based on musicals can't be released until six years after the show has opened on Broadway.
