Mary Ann Van Der Horst sang 'Halo' by Beyonce on The X Factor Australia 2014 auditions.

Mary Ann is a 28-year-old aged care worker whose tiny frame hides a huge voice. The judges are certainly impressed, as all four (Dannii Minogue, Ronan Keating, Natalie Bassingthwaighte, and Redfoo) are taken aback by the voice that comes out of her mouth.

Yet, with all that said, I don't know that I was that impressed by it myself. While she's certainly a good singer, I honestly can't figure out why they were all so crazy about this. Then again, I think most of it boiled down to song choice for me, since I think she was seriously overreaching by auditioning with a song from Beyonce, of all singers. Maybe she'll grow on me as the competition rolls on, the way last year's winner, Dami Im, inevitably did.
