Marvel Reveals Adrianne Palicki's Mockingbird Costume for 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D' (PHOTOS)

Last night's episode was huge for Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, as we were introduced to Agent Bobbi Morse, a.k.a Mockingbird. Morse, the head of HYDRA security, is not only revealed to be a double-agent working for Coulson (Clark Gregg), she's also revealed to be the much talked-about ex-wife of Agent Hunter (Nick Blood). In short, plenty of revelations abounded. Yet, we're in for even more in next week's episode.

Marvel unveiled Palicki's new duds for her role as Morse/Mockingbird, which will premiere in next week's episode. The concept designs suggest a more stylish look than the more functional appearance of the finished product, but it's an interesting window into the design process. Hell, we even get to see designs of Morse as a blonde, which was briefly referenced in last night's episode when Hunter expressed his disapproval with her new brunette locks. Overall, I'm digging this look, and not just because a beautiful woman is in them. It's a perfect cross-section of comic book design and real world, military practicality.

Costume designer Ann Foley offered her thoughts on the character's tactical suit.

"I looked at all of her comic appearances and really wanted to try to bring elements of the look from the comics into the costume that we're doing now for the show because I know it's important to the fans," said Foley. "It's important to me to keep certain elements, but we had to change it, obviously, for practicality, because it had to fit into our world. It had to have a kind of tactical feeling to it too so that it made sense in our universe.

"She's got rivets that are in the straps across her chest, and those are there as a tribute to the buttons that go down the side of her [most recent] costume [in the comics], as well as the colors that we were using, [which] are a tribute as well. Her colors are navy blue and white with a little bit of black in there, [but] white would not have been pretty on camera so we changed it to grey. [We] still tried to maintain the original style of what was in the comic book because [with] that white panel that goes up her center and down her legs, [so] we've mirrored that in her costume but in gray instead of white."

You can see the suit in action on next week's all-new episode of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, which will also feature the world premiere trailer for The Avengers: Age of Ultron!
