Marvel Announces Release Dates for 5 New Films Through 2019

Marvel is locking down its calendar for the next five years, as the studio has announced release dates for five upcoming films...but with a catch.

The catch, of course, is that while we have release dates for five new movies through 2019, we don't know what those movies actually are.

The dates, revealed on Marvel.com, are for July 28 and Nov. 3, 2017; July 6 and Nov. 2, 2018; and May 3, 2019.

May is usually reserved for Avengers films, but a four-year wait for a third movie in that franchise seems a bit long. And we already have Captain America 3 confirmed for May 6, 2016, which throws my lousy May theory out the window. Maybe one of them will be another Guardians of the Galaxy film? It's the Wild Guess Department up in here.

Currently on the docket, in addition to a third Captain America film, is Guardians of the Galaxy in two weeks (August 1), The Avengers: Age of Ultron on May 1, 2015, and Ant-Man on July 17, 2015. However, a Doctor Strange movie is expected to be formally announced soon, and third installments for Thor and The Avengers are virtually guaranteed at this point. So it's just a matter of matching the movies to the release dates. We could find out as soon as July 26, as Marvel is heading to San Diego Comic-Con. Hell, last year gave us the official reveal for Age of Ultron, so I think it's fair to expect some big announcements from Marvel sooner rather than later.
