Martin Freeman Says New 'Sherlock' Is 'Likely' In 2015
Sherlock fans, rejoice!
While a new season probably isn't coming until 2016, we might still be able to check in with Sherlock Holmes and John Watson before then. In an interview with U.K. newspaper The Telegraph, star Martin Freeman says it "looks pretty likely" that both he and co-star Benedict Cumberbatch will have enough time in their schedules to reunite in early 2015 to shoot a Christmas special for the show.
"I’m speaking off-message here [but] I think that might be for next Christmas," said Freeman, most recently seen on FX's Fargo. "That’s what I understand."

Freeman also revealed that the series will follow the canon of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's books more closely in the coming season. This means the likely death of a major character.
In the books, Watson’s wife Mary (played by Freeman's real-life spouse Amanda Abbington), tragically dies. Freeman expects that this will be a storyline that will carry over into the show in the fourth season.
"While we play fast and loose with the original stories, we generally follow the trajectory of what Conan Doyle did," said Freeman. "So [Watson] gets married, and then Mary dies—so at some point presumably she’ll die."
But will she die in the Christmas special? Well...it wouldn't exactly be in the spirit of the holiday, but that hasn't stopped other hit, British dramas from killing off a major character at Christmas.
