Maroon 5 to Perform at the MTV Video Music Awards 2014
Adam Levine is going back on his former stance on the MTV Video Music Awards. His band, Maroon 5, will be performing at the VMAs this year.
Maroon 5 will be making its VMA performance debut at this year's ceremony on Sunday, Aug. 24. The group will perform "Maps", their current single, on the special outdoor stage at The Forum in Inglewood, CA. Maroon 5 joins previously confirmed performers Usher, 5 Seconds of Summer and Ariana Grande, although additional performers will be added later.
"We are so excited about our upcoming new album and to be part of the great VMA lineup this year. It is our first time doing the show and we are thrilled to be on it performing our new single," said Levine in a statement.
This contrasts with Levine's previous stance on the VMAs. In August 2011, Levine lashed out at MTV over dropping the "M" in "Music Television". Levine tweeted, "The VMA's. One day a year when MTV pretends to still care about music. I'm drawing a line in the sand. F--- you VMA's."
Technically, he's not wrong about MTV, as the network is still struggling to get back to being in any way relevant to its own name. But maybe Levine realizes it's pointless to rage against the machine when there are albums to sell. Or perhaps marriage has mellowed him out? Either way, this is a big gain for MTV, and for viewers.
