Time to sub-in one Oscar winner for another.

Marion Cotillard has joined director Justin Kurzel's big-screen adaptation of Shakespeare's Macbeth, reports Deadline. Natalie Portman had previously been attached to play the scheming Lady Macbeth opposite Michael Fassbender as the eponymous antihero, but the actress recently left the production. Fassbender, however, is still on-board, as are The King’s Speech and Shame producers Iain Canning and Emile Sherman.

Pre-production is expected to begin at the end of the year with principal photography to get underway in the UK in January 2014.
