Mario Vazquez and Google Juice

I am now lamenting the loss of my "Google juice" for Mario Vazquez. Over the past few weeks, I have been blogging a lot about my American Idol favorites such as Anthony Fedorov, Mikalah Gordon and Mario. I've even almost completely transformed this blog into the American Idol blog! Google, being the great search engine that it is, picked that up, and for a while now rickey.org has been popping up on the first page of searches for various Idol contestants up to the most obscure like Dezmond Meeks (who wrote me an e-mail by the way). The recent Mario Vazquez controversy increased the visitors of this site ten-fold simply because I was on the first page... well, not anymore (I'm back!)

I feel a little bit disappointed since, I kinda worked hard on my Google page rank by writing meaningful posts and links, but now that the news media sites, link farms and bigger blogs have written about Mario Vazquez, we have been deemed not as significant by Google algorithms. Case in point: Gawker wrote about Mario ONE FRIGGIN' time and they're immediately on the first page of a Mario Vazquez search. How fair is that? In other words, they could write about anything at any given moment and Google would pick them up as some sort of authority. By contrast, Mario's #1 fan site mario-online.org is nowhere in Google's radar.

Anyway, I've really learned a lot with my current blogging experience. The amount of visitors I get now is a bit overwhelming but fun. I'm excited. A little scared. But that's how new things tend to affect you. I guess this is how I felt when I lost my Google juice for Fantasia Barrino last year. Before she won, I basically owned every Fantasia Barrino search out there. However, once she was crowned American Idol, she was released into the public domain and rickey.org was forgotten. I think I'm doing better this year in being a step ahead of bigger sites. However like life, it's hard to compete against the big guys. We're trying though. Thanks for the support.
