According to Fox News, the "Beautiful" singer has officially resigned from her role as American Idol judge. Mariah Carey's publicity firm, PMK BNC, confirmed the news via Twitter today.

Carey was a decent judge, all things considered; however, any astute and relevant criticism was often hidden under piles of fluff and pleasantries. I think the writing was on the wall for a while now, clearly. Mariah Carey simply did not love this job, but her care for the contestants seemed genuine and heartfelt. She never needed to do this, and she shouldn't look back.
