Make It Or Break It - The Buddy System - Recap

With Sasha gone, their new coach has them veering off to learn new routines. Payson thinks it's a waste of time to start a fun little project when they need to be training and I would normally agree. However, the scenes we get at the end of the episode totally make me reconsider. The girls aren't just learning any new routines, they're going to pair off and learn each other's routines. And because they're such amazing friends, Lauren and Payson are paired together. Is it just me or is Lauren meaner than usual to Payson in this episode? Why are they even friends?

Lauren is thrilled at the chance to outshine Payson for Max's attention. So far, Lauren's butt is winning that fight. In order to conquer Lauren's routine, Payson has to master the art of being sexy. She's a beautiful girl but when it comes to putting her sexuality out there, that's just not Payson. Austin offers to help Payson find her inner sex goddess. His help consists of making Payson smell different perfumes and crawl around on the mat like a cat. I don't get quite what he's trying to do but it's not working. Payson eventually channels her inner sex kitten by doing what she does best. Seeing this as a challenge that she needs to master precisely. It's a performance. She can act like Lauren. She comes to the beam with fake eyelashes and a whole lotta glitter and eyeshadow and Payson shines. WOOOT. Payson is HOT ya'll.

Lauren isn't as lucky these days. Steve finds the full dvd video clip of Payson and Sasha and realizes what Lauren has done. He's shocked his daughter could have done so much damage and not seem to care. Then again, he raised her. He asks for Summer's advice and she spouts off about prayer. Eventually she gets through to Steve that he has to make Lauren realize that she was wrong. He grabs the dvd and heads to the gym. Gasp! I'm so excited for this to go down. My excitement for Steve finally doing the right thing is short lived. Lauren sheds some tears and manipulates him into changing his mind. Sigh. I was so happy that Steve grew some balls for like 5 seconds.

Emily spends the majority of this episode walking around the gym in a hoody not doing much. I know what you're up to Emily! But the viewers don't. Her part of the episode is rather small and consists of her discovering her mom's secret job and yelling at her some more, blaming her for her crappy life. It wouldn't be AS crappy if you hadn't given up your scholarship Emily but whatever. She breaks down to Payson about being in love with Damon and not knowing whether to choose him or her gymnastics. Why do I feel like this decision will be much easier in a few episodes?

And Kaylie. She still could care less about her rehab meetings and is making no effort in her recovery. She still believes she doesn't have a problem. Her new friend and enabler Maeve is out of rehab and ready to help Kaylie prolong her denial. She encourages Kaylie to manipulate her parents against her therapist if it helps her get back to training asap. Austin is the only one in the gym not happy to see her and knows she doesn't belong there. Will Kaylie ever snap out of it? She gets quite the shocking wake up call when she calls Maeve for support and her mother answers. She informs Kaylie that Maeve died at the airport from heart failure.

Yikes! What did you guys think? Were you shocked by the end? Are you sad that it's been a two episode drought that has deprived us of Sasha?
