Luke Bryan's New Song Sparks Controversy
Luke Bryan's new single 'That's My Kind Of Night' has sparked controversy in the wake of its release.
The second single from Luke's upcoming August 13 release, Crash My Party, it follows the #1 title track which led the project.
Moving away from his previous material, the country rap song follows the trends and chooses country and hip hop cliches and an overtly sexual lyric, that has many fans bemoaning Luke's loss of substance from his music. This is an issue that has been raging in country music this year, with acts like Florida Georgia Line (their hit 'Cruise' includes a remix with Nelly), breaking the all-time record for weeks at #1 on Billboard's Hot Country Songs. In addition, the new sounds and styles are all over country radio, much to the disappointment and frustration of many traditional country fans, as well as those simply asking for more meaning above parties, beer, cut-off jeans, and sex in cars.
I must admit that I am one of those people. Over the last few days many of Luke Bryan's fans have taken to social media to complain of his new musical direction and the lack of real substance in 'That's My Kind Of Night', and have stirred up quite a controversy, with other fans of Luke's defending the track. Country rap is definitely the hot topic of late, and the fire has only been fed with the release of possibly the most polarizing country song this year (yes, really).
In addition, one of the lyrics mentions T-Pain, leading many to assume there will be a remix with the rapper. Luke Bryan has half-confirmed the collaboration, stating that a mutual songwriter friend sent them both the song to record, and that Luke is considering adding some of T-Pain's parts to his recording. So, that's a yes?
