Lucasfilm cancels 'Clone Wars,' postpones comedy series 'Detours' indefinitely

With Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm and the accompanying announcement of a new Star Wars film trilogy, it's become apparent that the future TV iterations of the Star Wars property are no longer a priority.

Lucasfilm announced earlier today that it is ceasing production on Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the critically-acclaimed series that's run for five seasons on Cartoon Network.

Supervising Director Dave Filoni assures fans that the creative team is still hard at work on additional stories for the series, but it’s not apparent when we'll see it. However, a Lucasfilm press release refers to these upcoming arcs as “bonus content,” which seems to imply that these stories won't be integrated into a proper season.

In addition to the cancellation, Lucasfilm has also indefinitely postponed the release of Star Wars: Detours, the animated spoof series created by the Robot Chicken team. Although a trailer was released last summer, Detours never had an official release date. Lucasfilm says it’s “reconsidered whether launching an animated comedy prior to the launch of Episode VII makes sense,” a statement which further emphasizes the division's priorities.

While these announcements are only in reference to the Star Wars animation projects, this can't be good news for the other televised franchise properties, such as the live-action crime-themed TV show Star Wars: Underworld or the dark-themed videogame Star Wars 1313, which sucks because it's probably the only non-Lego Star Wars game worth getting the least bit excited about in this day and age.
