Love in the Wild - Season 2 Episode 1 - Recap - The Teams Must Navigate Rough Waters

Last summer, when I first saw the preview for the new reality competition show Love in the Wild, I thought it looked pretty stupid.  In spite of that, I watched it anyway and it ended up becoming one of my favorite guilty pleasure shows of the summer season.

Much to my delight, Love in the Wild, is back for season two with the two hour season premiere airing Tuesday, May 5th at 8:00 p.m. EST on NBC.

For those of you who missed the first season, Love in the Wild is a reality competition show that plays out much like a mix of The Amazing Race and The Dating Game with a little bit of Survivor and Fear Factor thrown in for good measure.  We start out with seven single guys and seven single girls, all competing in a series of wacky adventures to become the last couple standing and hopefully find "love in the wild."

NBC promised a few new twists and turns with season 2 of the show and first and foremost is that the show has a brand new host, Jenny McCarthy.  The most memorable thing about last year's host is his bad hair, so I'm hoping this will be a good thing.

Episode one opens with some gorgeous scenery from this season's new "tropical location" in the Dominican Republic, along with some teasers for all the challenges, cat-fights and romantic encounters to come.

Jenny informs us that seven single men and seven single women are "embarking on the adventure of a lifetime" where they will be thrown into wild and "sometimes dangerous" adventures in order to discover if their partner is "worth fighting for."  She lets us know that each week at least one man and one woman will be sent packing and promises us that as the competition for partners heats up "tempers will flair."  However, in the end it will all be worth it.  The last couple standing will win a romantic all expenses paid trip around the world.

As the contestants ride in on a swanky sail boat, we get voice overs from various un-named contestants letting us know things like they were a solider in Iraq or that their main goal is to "be my amazing self."  And of course everyone is there to find "true love" while having an amazing adventure.

Much like last year, we first meet the contestants as they are all assembled on some generic jungle-like patch of ground, where they will pair up for the first time.  However before we get to the opening festivities, Jenny lets us know that both last year's winning couple, Samantha and Mike, and the runners up, Heather and Miles, are still together and "very much in love." So take that all you bachelors and bachelorettes who never actually make it to the wedding date!

The Couples Pair Up:

The girls have already drawn numbers to determine the order in which they get to select their "hot guy." I don't think the contestants are supposed to have had any interaction with each other up to this point, so this selection boils down to who they think looks the most like a good match for them....or whoever they think is hottest.

This is how it all goes down:
  1. Cina Luks - a 22 year old recent college graduate, is up first and lets us know that she usually has her "pick of guys" and even though she is young and some people think she doesn't know what love is, she thinks "age is just a number."  Ya know, as long as he's still young and hot.  She chooses:
  2. Aaron Chase - a 28 year old former marine, now working as a regional marketer for a beverage company.  Aaron thinks Cina is "super sexy" and that he's very lucky to have been picked first.  I would say they're both about medium hot....
  3. Tara Locke - a 26 year old procurement director, is up next.  She lets us know that she always gets what she wants and she thinks it's time for "Mr. Right", who she describes as a "hottie with a body."  She's obviously the intellectual of the group.  She chooses:
  4. Tim Parrish - a 32 year old real estate agent, who I must say looks much hotter in his publicity photo than he does on t.v.  Tim says he feels bad, because he had his eye on "the girl in the red" and doesn't seem much interested in Tara.  I think Tara is actually slightly hotter than Tim is, so he might be setting his sights a little too high....
  5. Summer Mack - a 32 year old former Olympic swimming hopeful who is now "involved" with relay for life, picks next. She wants a "manly man," which she defines as a guy who would "kill an alligator and make me a purse instead of buying one," but opines that the most important quality is that he make a good husband and father.  Nothing turns on a  guy like a woman who is looking for a good husband and father....She chooses:
  6. Jessie Wilson - a 33 year old former semi-pro football player, who now is the director of an Internet company.  Jessie doesn't let us know what he thinks of Summer, but tells us that he'd go to "any length" if he knew that someone was "the one."  I think he's the hottest of the guys chosen so far and he seems like he's ready to settle down, so good choosing Summer!
  7. Jenny Blatt - a 27 year old former gymnast, who now works in advertising, is up next.  Jenny tells us about how five years ago she walked in on her ex-boyfriend cheating on her and since then every guy she has met has been a total douche bag and she's completely bitter and jaded about it (sounds like a great catch!).  She's hoping to find a nice, normal guy on a reality t.v. show.  Good luck with that Jenny....She chooses:
  8. Benjamin Clark - a 27 year old former pro soccer player, who now coaches soccer at Wingate University.  Ben apparently had nothing interesting to say about Jenny, as the show moves right along to the next contestant.  Jenny and Ben are both former pro athletes, but Ben's profile indicates people "either love me or hate me," so I'm not sure that bodes well for bitter, jaded Jenny.
  9. Ali Leitza - a 33 year old aspiring sports writer, also known as the "girl in red" who Tim had his eye on, is up next.  Ali believes in "soul mates" and she's ready to settle down and start a family.  She's willing to do anything for love, but will she do that?  She chooses:
  10. Jason Holmes - a 29 year old personal trainer.  Jason doesn't get any screen time, but his profile indicates he's looking for "true love," just like his parents had, so maybe he'll be a good match for ready to settle down Ali.
  11. Yanina Beccaria - a 33 year old former "ice girl" for the Chicago Blackhawks, who now works in advertising, gets the second to last pick.  When she starts pretending to use the eenie, meanie miny mo method of choosing, Jenny quips "what? are we in fourth grade?" Yanina is tired of dating younger men and having to teach them how to be in a relationship.  She chooses:
  12. Kenneth Barrington - a 33 year old real estate developer.  Ken thinks Yanina is gorgeous and her body, face and smile are "blinding." Jenny thinks Yanina's hot too. I'd say they're probably overall the hottest couple so far, and they're exactly the same age, fulfilling Yanina's desire to not date younger men, so obviously this is a match made in heaven.
  13. Shauna Dillard - a 28 year old makeup artist and headband designer (that's a thing?), is up last.  I guess since it doesn't matter what she's looking for, since she doesn't really get a choice, we don't get to hear anything from Shauna. Since he's the only guy left, she chooses:
  14. Christian Seklecki - a 34 year old aspiring lawyer, who is currently studying for the bar exam while working as a music supervisor (huh?).  He's not an uggo by any means, but he's definitely the least hot of the seven guys, so no real surprise he ended up getting picked last. Christian says he wanted to hang his head in shame, but he seems to be taking it pretty well. I'm kind of rooting for him.
So there you have it, our seven happy couples, ready to start their adventure and find love in the wild, or so we think.  Just when I thought I was through introducing contestants, Jenny springs the season's fist big twist on us.  Seven more guys come marching out of the jungle to join the party. The girls don't seem to mind this sudden turn of events, but the guys are a bit dismayed. The girls now get to choose a second "hot guy" and will go on their first adventure as a trio! Apparently season 2 is Love in the Wild: Love Triangle Edition.
Jenny announces that the boys are going to have to work very hard to win their lady loves, as seven of them will be headed home at the very first "couple's choice" ceremony.  Interesting twist, but it doesn't seem quite fair to the guys.  I'm sure it will ramp up the drama at the first elimination a bit more though, which is always a good thing right? It seems like it would only be fair to have the girls choose in reverse order this time, but instead they go in another randomly selected order and wouldn't you know it, up first again is:
  1. Cina. She chooses: Jason Ewell - a 25 year old sales rep and personal trainer.  Jason is excited to get picked first by a hot girl.  Looks like both Cina's guys think she's super hot. Guess she's off to a good start.
  2. Ali is next and she chooses: Darwin Zook - a 32 year old location assistant manager. We don't find out anything about Darwin.
  3. Next up is Jenny and she chooses: Franky Arriola - a 31 year old social media correspondent and stand up comic. Jenny M. points out how buff Frankie is, but we don't hear any more about him.
  4. Shauna, who got stuck with the last pick on the first round, selects: Ryan Smith. They seem to be moving through the second round guys much quicker and Ryan also gets no screen time, but I have to say he's much hotter than poor Christian, so I guess we better hope Christian has a "good personality."
  5. Yanina goes next and picks: Mike Sweet - a 30 year old life guard, surf instructor and polo player.  Jenny makes Mike turn around and then declares Yanina made a good choice. Mike thinks so too, because he thinks Yanina is super cute.
  6. Next up is Tara and she selects: Leo Borriello - a 27 year old Navy vet, who is now attending college. Leo says Tara is the smartest girl up there. Tara's other beau is not impressed though and quips "what is this Jersey shore?"  I assume he's referring to Leo being a rather buff Italian guy, who wears his shirt sleeves rolled up to show off his bulging biceps.
  7. Summer ends up with the last pick of the second and hopefully final round and she gets: Quaison Dodd - a 31 year old personal trainer, who goes by the nickname "Q."  Q says they "saved the best for last" and Jenny agrees. I think he's pretty cute, so Summer definitely got a better last choice than Shauna did, at least in terms of hottness, however Q comments on how he can't believe he got picked last because he thinks he's super hot, plus he goes by the name "Q", so maybe Shauna's guy will end up being the better last resort after all.
Overall, I'd say round two of the guys were a bit higher on the hottness scale than round one.

Now that we have our seven trios, which kind of sounds like something you might order at Red Lobster,  Jenny has a few
warnings for the contestants.  Like last season, the better they finish on their adventure challenges, the better chance they have of not being eliminated at the couple's choice ceremony, however there's another twist. The further back you finish on the adventure, the more "rugged" your accommodations will be. This year there's even more incentive to do well on the adventure and i'm sure even more sulking and cattiness will ensue when someone screws up and lands them in a van down by the river instead of the Ritz Carlton.

Like last season, the couple who wins the adventure challenge each week gets to stay at "the oasis," which is a super swanky and exclusive romantic hang out where the trio will get some extra special alone time, without any other contestants to mess with their game. 2nd through 4th place finishers will stay in a "cozy cabin."   5th and 6th place finishers will be staying in some "very rugged conditions," while the last place trio will end up in some place so horrible that Jenny can only
describe it as "vile." So maybe Tim was right and this is Jersey shore....

Now that Jenny has sufficiently conveyed the importance of actually winning your adventure challenge, or at least not finishing last, she orders the 21 contestants to go change into their "adventure clothes" and get this thing started.

The Adventure Challenge:

The first adventure looks like it will begin at the beach near where the initial trio selection took place.   Jenny shows the contestants a conk shell and explains that for their first adventure, they are going to have to find three shells. In order to get the shells, they are going to need some supplies and a map, which are stored in a "very safe place." In swoops a helicopter, which quickly flies out over the ocean and dumps seven large packs into the water.  Each trio must select only one person to swim out and get the packs, the other two must remain behind and watch.

The swimmers for each trio are:
  1. Summer - who we learn was a competitive swimmer in college and is the only girl to take on the swimming challenge
  2. Ken - Even tho Mike is a lifeguard and swim instructor, he opts to let rival Ken do the swimming, so he can stay behind and get to know Yanina better.
  3. Christian
  4. Leo
  5. Ben
  6. Chase
  7. Jason H.
Summer gets out to an early lead and Jessie couldn't be more thrilled. He's perfectly happy to kick back on the beach and let her do all the work.  Q, who seemed skeptical of Summer as their swimming selection seems more concerned.

Ken is in second place. Ken thinks he can impress Yanina by making sure he gets back with the bag first, but Mike is busy trying to chat her up back at the beach. Mike thinks Yanina's a real nice girl and "smokin hot." He admits to Yanina that he's a good swimmer, but let Ken do the swimming, so that he could hang out at the beach with Yanina. This line actually seems to work on her. Go figure.

Leo is doing the swimming for his team and his rival Tim somewhat obnoxiously cheers him on by telling him he's getting beat by a girl and that Tara will award him with a "breast stroke" if he wins.  So far, I don't like Tim much. Tim lets us know that he doesn't have a very good track record with being faithful, but even though people call him a womanizer, he thinks it's just that he hasn't met the right girl yet. He points out that while there are a lot of women out there, there's only one Tim.  Gee, I like him so much better now....

While Ben swims for his trio, Jenny is trying to make small talk with Franky back at the beach, but he's too busy cheering
on Ben to notice.  Bromance brewing or just super competitive? Guess we'll find out. Bitter, jaded Jenny is not impressed.

Meanwhile Chase is struggling a bit and reveals that he was a bit too excited to get into the water and didn't think to remove his cargo pants and shoes and blames all that stuff weighing him down for his poor performance.  Cina's a bit concerned and wishes she could go out and help him.

Summer is the first contestant to reach the packs and start on the swim for home.  Ken is still in second place and Yanina is impressed by his performance.  As they near the beach with Summer in first and Ken a close second, Summer gets knocked down by a big wave and Ken grabs the lead and gets his pack back up on the beach first.  Mike grabs the map, which instructs them to head off in search of a well where they will lower the female member of their trio down to get the first shell.  Team Mike, Yanina and Ken race off in first place.  Summer, Jessie and Q are in second.  Tara, Tim and Leo are in third.  Shauna, Christina and Ryan are fourth.

Love in the Wild Contestant faces snakesMike, Yanina and Ken are the first to reach the well with Summer, Jessie and Q right behind them.  When they reach the well they see that it is full of snakes (why'd it have to be snakes!).  Yanina gets lowered into the well right in front of Summer.  Neither girl is happy about the snakes, but Summer is doing her best to "suck it up."  The shells are hidden somewhere in the sand at the bottom of the well and the girls have to pick through the snakes to try and find them.

At this point, I probably would have been like, ya know I think I'm fine with being single after all and caught the first flight back home, but Yanina and Summer are made of sterner stuff and soldier on.  Summer finds her shell first and the guys haul her out of the snake filled well.  Q reveals that he loves a woman that's a "badass" and he's super impressed with Summer.  Q, Summer and Jessie move on in first place.  Yanina finds her shell shortly afterward and her team moves out in second.

Meanwhile back at the beach, Cina, Chase and Jason E. are in sixth place after the pack swim.  Jason E. thinks Chase's poor performance makes him look good by comparison, so I guess he's a real silver lining sort of guy.  Ali, Jason H. and Darwin are in dead last.  Ali remarks that Jason looks "near death" and things just aren't as sexy as she hoped they'd be at this point.

Tara, Tim and Leo arrive at the well o' snakes in third place.  Tara is expecting some kind of "water party," and isn't happy at all when she finds out that it's actually full of snakes.  Not surprisingly, Tim is a total dick who thinks Tara being afraid to be lowered into a well full of snakes is ridiculous.

Shauna, Christian and Ryan make it to the well in fourth.  Shauna is also petrified of snakes.  Tara mostly stands around on a stump screaming and doing nothing useful, so Shauna is the first to find a shell, moving her team into third place.

Summer, Jessie and Q are still in first as they reach the next challenge.  This challenge is just for the guys and involves chucking a coconut at a tiki mask, which is suspended from a wire above the ground.  Q thinks he'll do great in this challenge, because he's a "manly man,"  however after several rather pathetic throws by Q, Jessie ends up being the one to smash the mask and get the clue for their next challenge.  The clue instructs them that they must decide which of the two guys was most responsible for knocking the mask down and that guy has to kiss Summer, while the other takes a picture of them on their cell phone.  Since Jessie knocked down the mask, he gets to kiss Summer.

Yanina, Ken and Mike arrive at the coconut throw in second place.  Mike nails the mask on his first throw and Yanina is turned on by his coconut throwing ability.  Mike of course gets the kiss.  Ken isn't impressed by their smooch and says they looked like "two cousins kissing."  I have to say it was a pretty awkward looking kiss.

Tara, Tim and Leo are the fourth team to arrive at the coconut throw.  Tim breaks the mask and wins the kiss and is a total douche bag about it, referring to himself as "the Timeister" and saying he thinks he provided Tara with the "best five seconds of her life."  Tara, however, says the kiss was just "okay."

Back at the snake pit, Jenny, Ben and Franky are in fifth place.  Jenny noticed that there is a map laying on the ground, which turns out to belong to now fourth place team, Shauna, Ryan and Christian who have to backtrack to the well to get it.  Ryan is the dumbass who forgot the map and Shauna is not pleased.

Cina, Chase and Jason E. arrive at the snake well in 6th place.  Cina keeps repeating that she hates snakes as they lower her into the well.  Cina tries to dig with her feet while cowering against the wall and Jenny is the first to find a shell and move on to the next obstacle.  Meanwhile, Ali, Jason H. and Darwin show up in last place.

Bitter, jaded Jenny stops patting herself on the back for being a "rockstar" in the snake well, just long enough to rub the map loser's failure in their face, as her team moves on to the coconut throw in fourth place.  She seems like a real delight.  Apparently Ben agrees, because he thinks she's a great girl and he's really enjoying her company.  Different strokes I reckon.

Both guys on bitter, jaded Jenny's team struggle to hit the mask with their coconuts, meanwhile Shauna is still shrieking at Ryan for forgetting the map.  Christian expresses that she's really getting on his nerves.  Shauna continues to be a shrieking nag as the two guys start throwing coconuts at the mask.  Christian is already ready to find him another girl.

Back at the snake well, Jason is very impressed that Ali just got right down to business with no freaking out about the snakes, however their team is still in last place.

Love in the Wild contestants struggle to stay floatSummer, Jessie and Q are the first to reach the next challenge which involves hauling a wooden boat out onto the ocean and then searching for a shell hidden under the water.  Jessie and Q are super happy they have the "most athletic" of the girls to help them drag the boat out to the water.

Yanina, Ken and Mike arrive to the boats in second place.  Summer, Jessie and Q run into some trouble bailing the water out of their canoe fast enough and their boat sinks.  Rather than trying to get back into the boat, the trio decide to just swim the rest of the way to the spot where they have to dive for the coconuts.  Q was originally supposed to do the diving, but since he is struggling to deal with his pack and shoes or something, he asks Summer to do it.  Summer expresses that she thinks she's been carrying both guys for the whole adventure and she probably would have been better off to just do the whole thing by herself.  Burn!  While the two guys float around aimlessly, Summer retrieves the shell from the ocean floor like a boss and keeps her team in first place.

Yanina, Ken and Mike's boat also ends up sinking.  Mike tows the pack and Yanina and Ken grabs the second shell keeping their trio in second place.  Tara, Tim and Leo emerge from the shell diving in third after being the first team to manage to keep their boat afloat for the whole obstacle.  Leo is turned on by Tara's grit, even though she's a "pretty princess" and obviously doesn't like this kind of stuff.

Back at the coconut toss, Cina, Chase and Jason E are in fourth place.  Cina is torn between Jason and Chase, because while Jason was impressive at the coconut throw, Chase was a boss in the ocean.  Jason wins the kiss and Cina feels like she's some "exotic animal" that everybody wants.  At least she's humble about it.

Ben and Franky are still trying to hit the mask with their coconuts and bitter, jaded Jenny is not pleased.  However, Ben finally gets it done and wins the kiss.  Turns out Ben's a really good kisser, which is a good thing, since Franky can't figure out how to work the camera and they end up having to kiss half a dozen times before he finally snaps the picture.  Bitter, jaded Jenny actually seems a little less bitter after smooching with Ben.  Things aren't looking good for Franky.

Cina, Chase and Jason exit the shell diving in fourth place.  Shauna, Christian and Ryan are still in fifth and Shauna is still being an annoying shrew.  Christian declares that if Ryan wants Shauna, he can have her and I don't blame him one bit.  Meanwhile, Jenny, Ben and Franky finish the shell diving in 6th.  Slightly less bitter and jaded Jenny is still lovin her some Ben and Ben declares that Franky is totally useless.  I guess the bromance is over.

Ali, Jason H. and Darwin are still in last place.  Jason makes up for his failure on the pack swim by being the only guy who can dive down for the shell.  Apparently Darwin isn't a good swimmer either, so it looks like that team was just doomed from the start.

Hot Guy Shimmys up a PoleSummer, Jessie and Q are still in first place as they reach the final obstacle.  For this challenge, they have to climb a tall pole that has the last of the three shells strapped to the top.  Q initially wants to do the pole climbing, but Jessie, in an attempt to win over Summer who is tired of having to do all the work, takes charge and shimmies right up the pole to grab the final shell.   His effort pays off, as Summer finds his pole shimmying very attractive and his effort keeps them in first place.

Yanina, Ken and Mike arrive at the pole shimmy in second place.  Mike makes short work of the pole and they stay in second place.  However, their effort isn't good enough to overtake Summer, Jessie and Q, who race onto the beach to the cheers of Jenny McCarthy and claim their night at The Oasis.  Q snakes a kiss from summer and they head off to celebrate.

Yanina, Ken and Mike finish in second place.  Tara, Tim and Leo claim third.  Leo scrapes his palms while sliding back down the pole and then smears the blood on his face.  Tim thinks he's an idiot and Jenny M. seems to be totally flummoxed and a bit grossed out by this, but they still claim their spot in one of the "cozy cabins."

Cina, Chase and Jason E. grab the final cozy cabin spot with their fourth place finish.  Map forgetting Ryan, Shrieking Shauna and you can have her Christian almost manage to catch them, but end up in fifth place.  Slightly less bitter, jaded Jenny, Ben and Franky finish sixth.  They will both end up in the "rugged" accommodations.  Ali, Jason H. and Darwin are wire to wire last place finishers and will soon find out what sort of "vile" accommodations are in store for them.  Jenny rubs their noses in it a bit and Ali lets us know that she wasn't very impressed with either guy in her trio.

A Tale of Three Accommodations:

Love in the OasisThe victorious trio of Summer, Jessie and Q arrive hand in hand at The Oasis.  The Oasis comes complete with a beautiful swimming pool, personal chef and bartender and a large luxury cabin, but only one bed.  Summer is a bit dismayed by this, but decides to enjoy the champagne and leave the tough decisions for later.  Jessie declares that while The Oasis is the perfect place for a romantic getaway, it's not such a perfect place for two dudes and a girl.  Unless you're into that sort of thing....

Meanwhile, the 2nd - 4th place finishers are checking out their cozy cabins.  While not nearly as fancy as The Oasis, the cozy cabins are pretty nice and look like they'd be a fun place to vacation.  They come complete with a nice swimming pool, but like The Oasis, only one bed each.  Everyone but Leo seems pretty dismayed over this.  Leo can't wait to jump in bed with a stranger.

The "rugged" accommodations for the 5th and 6th place finishers turns out to be a couple cabin tents out on the lawn near the cozy cabins.  While certainly not as nice as the cabins, camping can be kinda fun and romantic and at least they aren't in the middle of the woods.  Shrieking Shauna immediately starts whining because there is a spider in their tent.  At this point, if I were Ryan and Christian I'd consider going gay and just losing Shauna in the jungle somewhere.  We don't get much commentary from Jenny, Ben and Franky other than Franky expressing that it wasn't so bad and Ben giving him the stink eye.

Love in a Lean ToFinally, last place Ali, Jason H. & Darwin arrive at their "vile" accommodations, which turns out to be basically an open porch with a roof on it and some sleeping bags.  I'll admit, that I'm not a huge fan of sleeping on the floor, but I've known people to sleep on the ground with their head propped against a truck tire, so this really doesn't seem all that "vile" to me, just not exactly a spot I'd want to go for a romantic getaway.  To add insult to injury, the other contestants all stop by to make fun of the last place team's sleeping quarters.  Jason and Darwin seem to be handling it ok, but Ali is freaking out and doesn't think she can spend the night here.  So, I guess Ali is willing to do anything for love, as long as it doesn't involve sleeping outdoors.  She won't do that.  No, she won't do that.  Jason H. tries to talk Ali off the ledge and convince her to stay.  He actually seems like a really nice guy and eventually manages to win Ali over and she decides to stay the night.  Darwin, on he other hand, is just kinda standing out in the yard somewhere and Ali confesses she forgets he was even there.  Guess Darwin gets the Darwin award - dating edition for this episode.

While Ali is discovering the joys of the "outdoor vanity," Summer, Q and Jessie are enjoying a fancy dinner cooked up by their personal chef.  As nice as The Oasis is, Summer decides she wants to head for the cozy cabins to check out the other guys.  They arrive at the cabins and discover a pool party already in progress.  Tara is ready to flirt, but when her partner Leo strips down to his undies and starts prancing around the pool, she is not impressed and she's already wishing for him to go home.  Mike, on the other hand, is faring much better with Yanina, who thinks he's really funny and charming.

Hotties in the PoolThe "Timeister" is not enjoying the sausage fest at the pool party.  At this point, I'm ready for him and Leo and Leo's panties to hit the road, so I'm hoping none of the seven girls are into douche bags.  So of course, Summer immediately points out that she's got her eye on Tim.  Why, Summer, why? Meanwhile Tara, Q, and Cina have ditched the pool party to go hang out in the hammock.

Back at The Oasis, Summer, Q and Jessie are working out the sleeping arrangements.  Summer isn't sold on either guy and wants to sleep in the bed alone, but she doesn't want to be rude, so she lets the boys decide where they will sleep.  Jessie tries to do the gentlemanly thing and let Summer have the bed to herself, but Q is having none of it and declares he will be sleeping in the bed.  Summer isn't impressed and neither am I.  Though, she could have just been ok dude, enjoy yourself and rode the floor.  At least it's a big bed.

At Cina, Chase and Jason E's cozy cabin, Jason E. thinks the bed is plenty big enough for three, but Chase opts to sleep on the floor while Jason claims a spot in the bed with Cina.  Apparently that was the wrong move, because now Cina is favoring Chase over Jason, because he is "more considerate."  I hope that's a comfy bed Jason.

At Tim, Tara and Leo's cabin, Tara makes it clear that she'd like the bed all to herself and the guys can just go sleep wherever. But both guys, being total douche bags that they are, insist on getting in the bed with her.  Tara tells us that Leo has no shot with her, while he tells us that he thinks he has a great shot with Tara.  The Timeister isn't doing much better with all his creepy grossness.

Ken, Yanina and Mike all end up sharing a bed, though they all seem pretty much ok with it.  Neither Ken, nor Yanina seem terribly impressed with Mike's attempts to snuggle with Yanina.

I suppose the silver lining for the 5th - 7th place teams is that there are no beds to fight over.  However, not only are Jason H., Ali and Darwin getting eat up by mosquitoes, but it starts to rain.  In spite of that, the trio survives the night.  Ali is still liking Jason much more than Darwin.

Slightly less bitter, jaded Jenny and Ben are snug and dry in their tent, but neither can sleep due to Franky's obnoxious snoring.

Salsa Dancing in the WildDay two is "reward day" for the first place team.  Their reward turns out to be a Salsa dancing lesson.  Q enjoys dancing with Summer, but she thinks she has a better connection with Jessie.  Q is ok with that and thinks he'll find a love connection with one of the other six girls.

Back at the pool, Jenny M. meets up with the contestants to remind them that seven guys and no girls are going home and first place winner Summer will have her pick of any of the 14 guys.  For the rest of the contestants, she advises them to be "prepared for anything."

The rest of day two basically consists of Survivor style scrambling to avoid being eliminated.  Ryan manages to worm his way into Shrieking Shauna's heart by doing yoga with her, but she's through with Christian, which I suspect doesn't upset him all that much.  Christian is busy trying to win over Tara, but while she thinks he seems like a "nice guy" she isn't interested

Ken tries to win over Yanina by showing her his photo album and telling her about how he volunteers at an animal shelter.  He seems to make some headway, though honestly Yanina seems to be "turned on" by just about everything so far.

Somewhat less bitter and jaded Jenny is still digging on Ben and so far the feeling seems to be mutual.  Jason E. is working on Cina back at the hammock, but she's not convinced that he isn't just trying to avoid elimination.  For some reason, instead of working on Yanina, Mike is trying to convince Ken that Mike is working harder than Ken.  Maybe Mike didn't get the memo that it's the ladies who will be choosing who stays and who goes?  Or maybe he thinks he can convince Ken to go after some other chick.  Personally though, I think Mike is a bit of a dumbass.

Day three dawns and Leo is still annoying everyone, Ali is still whining about wanting to go home and slightly less bitter and jaded Jenny is trying to teach Ben gymnastics.  Everyone's tip toeing around on the verge of a freak out Ali, but Chase thinks his experience as part of a co-ed unit in the Marine core will help him win over Ali, because he knows how to deal with women in pressure situations.

Mike has decided not to put all his eggs in Yanina's basket and is now trying to win over shrieking Shauna and it seems to be working until Mike tries to talk her into giving him a kiss.  Shauna is now concerned that Mike has other "interior" motives.  It's too bad, because I think these two might deserve each other.

The Couple's Choice Ceremony:

The moment of truth has finally arrived.  Jenny reiterates that seven men will be going home, but when she asks if anyone is concerned it's going to be them, only Christian raises his hand.  Jenny then lays out the rules on how the ceremony will work. She will bring the trios up in the order in which they finished the adventure challenge.  The ladies will then get to choose which man will be their partner and which will go to the "unmatched area."  Unlike last season, whichever guy the lady chooses, he can't say no.  Summer has the advantage of being able to choose from any of the 14 guys, rather than just the two in her trio.

So here's how the ceremony went down:

Summer, Q and Jessie are up first.  Summer tells Jenny that while Jessie outperformed Q in the challenges, Q did carry the big backpack everywhere and when Jenny asks how they performed later, Summer Mona Lisas her way through it and says they were both "good kissers."

In spite of all that, Summer friend zones both Jessie and Q and chooses Tim.  Summer is now officially dead to me.  Both Jessie and Q head to he unmatched area.

Yanina, Ken and Mike are next up.  Ken confesses to "getting romantic" with Yanina in spite of how hard it was to get some alone time with her with Mike around.  Yanina professes "brotherly love" for Mike and chooses Ken.

Tara and Leo are up next.  Since Summer snatched up the Timeister, Tara is stuck with Leo and she's not happy about it.  Leo says Tara's a bit more "materialistic" than the girls he would normally date, but never-the-less they'll be adventuring together again next week.

Cina, Jason E and Chase are next to go.  Jason E. thinks they are both great guys and Cina will have a hard time choosing and she agrees, but ultimately she chooses Jason over Chase.  I guess Chase should have slept in the bed after all.  Nice guys finish last Chase!

Next is Shrieking Shauna, map losing Ryan and you can have her Christian.  Shauna wastes no time kicking Christian to the curb and choosing Ryan.

Slightly less bitter and jaded Jenny, Ben and Franky are next.  Jenny also wastes no time explaining that snoring Franky just isn't her type and goes with Ben.

Finally, we have Ali, Jason H and Darwin.  Unsurprisingly Ali chooses Jason and sends Darwin to the unmatched area.

Now it's time for one last surprise twist!  The ladies all get one last chance to either love the one they're with or swap them out for any of the seven guys in the unmatched area.  But first the seven unmatched guys have a chance to plead their case to the ladies.

Q makes a play for Cina or Tara.  Jessie tries for Ali.  Mike wants shrieking Shauna.  Chase is also after Ali.  The rest of them remain silent.

Yanina stays with Ken.  Tara ditches Leo and chooses Jessie, because he's the only person she didn't talk to.  Cina stays with Jason E.  Shrieking Shauna says she formed a huge connection with Mike, but she thinks very highly of Ryan.  In the end she stays with map losing Ryan.  Shouldn't have gone for that kiss Mike!  Slightly less bitter and jaded Jenny stays with Ben, who is tired of all the twists.  Ali decides to dump nice guy Jason H. and goes with Chase, who she threatens to sink if he's not a "damn good swimmer."   Looks like Chases efforts at the outdoor vanity paid off.

The seven unmatched guys are eliminated for real this time and we say goodbye to Q, Mike, Christian, Leo, Jason H., Darwin and Franky.

Jenny sends the remaining seven couples off with the advice to get a good night's rest, because the next adventure is going to "test their relationship."
