LOST: The Final Season - Questions, WTF moments, and One Fierce Fedora

Thank God for Desmond episodes. That's all I have to say.

Desmond's flash sideways? So Desmond's life couldn't be more different in his timeline. He's successful at his kick ass job as Widmore's BFF, he's single, gets all the expensive whiskey he wants, and an unlimited supply of cool shades. His first assignment in L.A. is babysitting the junkie rock star fresh out of jail. Chahlie! I miss you. You're quite the whiner in this episode though. What do you know?

What did Charlie experience? Ever since the season premiere, we've speculated that Charlie knew something the others didn't with his "I was supposed to die" line. We learned tonight that while he was in the loo busy swallowing heroin, he had a strange near death experience. He saw love. A vision of a rapturous blonde girl that he knew he was meant to be with. What was he seeing? His life on the island? Life after the island and the flash sideways? Something different? This is our first concrete piece of evidence that the two timelines are starting to blend together.

What is Widmore testing? Charles has always been such a selfless, kind man. Not. He rips Des right out of the hospital, takes him back to the hell hole he spent a good chunk of his life trying to escape from, and tries to tell him it's all for the best. That he shouldn't worry. But then he has his goons kick Desmond's ass before tying him to a chair in a weird electromagnetic room that just happened to be there. Was this place always on that island? They fry Desmond up and he flashes to our Alt. universe. That was some quantum leap stuff right there. What was Widmore testing? If Desmond was really special? That he wouldn't die? That was quite the extreme test for someone not sure if his son in law would live or die.

What is the trigger? Charlie is still experiencing a careless mood, walking in front of traffic, telling people off..so he's desperate to get back to what he saw on the plane. And he's taking Desmond with him. He drives them both off a pier in the hopes that Desmond would have the same experience. Did Charlie see Claire again? As Desmond is trying to save Charlie, Charlie opens his eyes, looks at Desmond, and presses his hand to the window, causing Des to have flashes of memories. Does it have to be a near death experience that causes these memories? What triggers them? Does Charlie remember Desmond? Are the feelings of recognition when our losties look in the mirror the same thing?

Why can't Des ask questions? Once again, Eloise shows up to piss on all the fun. She's throwing a charity ball for her son, the musician, and we get a glimpse of Daniel playing the piano. Who else squeed when Dan showed up?? Just me? It couldn't be more obvious that she recognizes Desmond and knows he's about to start asking the wrong questions. She tells him he's not ready to investigate these things and basically tells him he should just be happy with the fantasy life he's living. That's what I think this is. An alternate fantasy. An easier route that's not necessarily right. I'm tired of Eloise and her big bag of bullsh*t. I think she's selfish and knows she was responsible for Dan dying and she'll do anything to keep this fantasy going.

Daniel? Daniel caught a glimpse of a beautiful red headed Charlotte and had an intense feeling that he already loved her. Ugh. What happened to Theresa? Charlotte's off doing Sawyer somewhere. He then opened his journal which I assume is full of song lyrics now, and writes down a complicated physics equation. He has no idea what it means but knows that only a very dedicated physicist could come up with it. Is this another sign of the timelines blending over? Is Daniel remembering his plan to detonate a hydrogen bomb? Does he think the bomb was never supposed to happen or was he just starting to piece things together?

I thought this episode was fantastic. An entire episode of my three favorite characters (minus Richard) is enough to get on my list of favorite episodes ever. Desmond episodes always deliver. I have a feeling we got some major major clues and information tonight. Unfortunately, my brain isn't capable of putting it together. I was so happy to see Daniel again after such a long time without him. I just want to squeeze him and get him away from his crazy mother. Charlie creeped me out but I loved the scenes he had with Desmond.

I also appreciated the painting in Widmore's office. It was a scale in case you didn't see it. I'm curious what the sacrifice Widmore spoke of will be. Why is Desmond so..agreeable now? I don't think he's been claimed but he sure seems pretty..confident. Does he know what he has to do next?
