Lost - Some Like It Hoth

Wow. Another brilliant episode of Lost.

I've been waiting for a Miles-centric episode for ages, and now that it's here, it did not disappoint. One of the best episodes of the season and the entire series.

SPOILERS

So it turns out that Miles has some father angst. He and his mother were abandoned by his father when he was a baby. Growing up, Miles discovered that he can communicate with dead people, and he suspects that his father had something to do with it -- and hated him for that.

In the flashbacks we also witness how Miles was recruited by Charles Widmore for $1.6 million. One night however, Miles was ambushed by some dudes, in particular Bram who was on the Flight 316 and is currently on the island with Frank and that lady bounty hunter. Bram told Miles that he was not ready to go back to the island because he did not know the answer to: "What lies in the shadow of the statue?"

OMG -- I so now want to know what the frack lies in the shadow of the statue. Waaaaa. What lies in the shadow of the statue?!? Lost is going to tease us for months with this question! Apparently, those who know the answer are on the team fighting team Charles Widmore. Hah. More mind-frack questions we don't know the answer to.

Anyways... on the island, Sawyer radios Miles to accidentally erase the surveillance tapes of him and Kate taking young Ben to the perimeter. Before he could do it however, Horace comes in and brings him into the "Circle of Trust" --- hahaha, I loved that. He gives him a body bag to give to Ed who will then give him something to bring back to Horace no questions asked. Well, that "thing" turns out to be a dead body. The body had a hole in its head -- and after communicating to it on the trip back, Miles discovers that it was a filling in the man's tooth that caused it. Interesting! Magnetism on the island! So strong that it can pull metal fillings through your skull. Sweet.

When Miles reaches Horace, he tells Miles to bring the body to Dr. Chang in the Orchid. Hurley hitches a ride since he was going to the Orchid to deliver sandwiches. Miles hesitates but lets Hurley come along. When they get to the Orchid, Dr. Chang takes the body and is irate that Hurley was inadvertently brought into the "Circle of Trust". He threatens Hurley to a job weighing Polar Bear feces if he lets the secret out. Hurley tells Miles: Dude, that guy is a total douche. Miles responds: That douche is my dad. Omigah!

Miles and Hurley then drive Dr. Chang to the site where the hatch was being built. The conversation in the van was brilliant, as Hurley tried to get Miles to warm up to his father. Hurley: So you a fan of jazz Dr. Chang, like Miles Davis? Dr. Chang: My wife is... I like country. Miles: (eye-roll)

On the drive back, Miles finally tells Hurley to stop pestering him about his father. Then he takes the notebook that Hurley has been scribbling on all day, and read it. Hurley: "It's 1977, I've been writing the script to Empire Strikes Back with a few changes." Hahaha. He then ties in Luke Skywalker's issues with Miles' issues with his father. Bravo!

Meanwhile, Ben's father suspects that Kate may have something to do with young Ben disappearing from the Infirmary. Jack warns Sawyer about this in his house. Then Phil arrives and tells him: I know who took the kid... you! (Showing the tape Miles did not erase). They go into the house and Sawyer knocks him out cold. Sawyer tells Juliet: Get some rope. Woohoo!

Miles has a change of heart after Hurley's Star Wars father-son insight and goes to Dr. Chang's house and sees his father playing with his young self. Nice. Miles walks away, but Dr. Chang comes out and calls to him: We need your help bringing in scientists who arrived from Ann Arbor.

At the dock, Miles takes the bag of one of the scientists getting off the submarine... drum roll... it's Daniel Faraday. I. Can't. Breathe.

Next week is a Lost recap episode -- good for those catching up with the story. New episode in 2 weeks.

I love Lost!
