Lost Season 6 - Series Finale - The End - Recap

Here are my notes from tonight's series finale of Lost as I watched it:
Rose and Bernard!
Richard Alpert is not dead!
Juliet!
Frank is alive!
Juliet is the mother of Jack's child in the Flash Sideways! OMG
OMG! Sayid and Shannon!
Boone!
Charlotte and Daniel Faraday!
Miles: "I don't believe in a lot of things but I do believe in duct tape!"
Hurley: "You were a great #2"
Ben: "You were a great #1"
----
And this is my assessment of what just went on, which was a bit confusing.
First of all, the island itself was real. The Flash Sideways was the "purgatory" part of the series. It got a bit confusing because the Flash Sideways concentrated on Jack who we did not see die yet until the very end -- and until his father confirmed that he was indeed dead.
The characters in the Flash Sideways died at different "times" -- but this final episode focused mostly on the time of the death of Jack.
In "real" "island" time, Hurley is still #1 ("Jacob") and Ben is his #2 -- which I think is an opening for some sort of sequel. (They will eventually die at some point to meet Jack in the Flash Sideways).
By the looks of things though, it may not happen since initial fan reaction to the word "purgatory" has been quite negative!
I don't know why the writers went with the Flash Sideways / Purgatory device -- it's kinda awful. Makes you wonder if "purgatory" was the whole premise of the island in the first place and they changed course midway because the mythology got good. Maybe they thought putting the "purgatory" theme into the Flash Sideways instead of the island was a good compromise.
Hey, back in Season 2/3, I said the island was purgatory -- and then we get purgatory! Woohoo.
Overall, I'm happy. But fans can never be completely satisfied.
I will miss this show tremendously. I love Lost!
