Lost Season 6 - Episode 5: Lighthouse - Recap

To be honest, my mind is swirling. Cannot get my head around Rambo-Claire and Jack's "special purpose" on the island.
At any rate, like every week, we will try to understand -- even if we don't really understand -- what is happening on Lost.
The Flash Sideways:
It's all about Jack and his relationship with his son David! Jack only sees him once a month and clearly has communication issues with him -- just like Jack and his father. Jack actually says on the island at one point to Hugo in between one of the flash sideways: "I will not be a good father." Nice.
During one of the once a month visits, David goes to a piano competition while Jack was away visiting his mother (to look for his father's will). Jack comes home in a panic but eventually discovers that his son is in a recital and follows him there. In fact, Jack didn't even know that David had been playing the piano all these years. And just to jar our senses even more, the Japanese guy who hates English but is now speaking English all the time also had a kid in the competition.
Jack eventually reconciles with his son. He tells him: "In my eyes you can never fail. I just want to be a part of your life."
Other significant things that were revealed in the flash sideways: Jack's father mentions Claire Littleton in the will. And Jack did not remember his appendix being taken out when he was a kid.
At least with Jack, this tells us something about these flash sideways: they have incomplete memories. Kinda jumping into a reality without really experiencing everything about that reality. I think that Jack didn't know that his son David played the piano - not because his wife never told him - maybe he just didn't know.
Mind-melting. I will just have to watch this show through.
The Island!
1. Jacob reveals himself to Hugo again. He wants Hugo to take Jack with him to a lighthouse because 'someone is coming to the island'. Hugo scrolls directions on his forearm.
2. Jack tells Sayid that the Others wanted to poison him. Hugo attempts to go to the lighthouse on his own, but is stopped by the Japanese man. Jacob appears and tell Hugo to tell the Japanese man that "he is a candidate" -- which works because the guy leaves. (Hopefully someone on the Internet already has translated the awful Japanese words he said while he walked away).
3. Hugo goes to Jack. Jack agrees to go after he says a trigger phrase that Jacob told him to tell Jack: "You have what it takes." (Take what? Melting mind wants to know.)
4. Some strange "it's small island after all" happenings as Jack and Hugo just happen to see Kate by a stream. LOL. Oh-kay. Kate is looking for Claire - who at this point we know is now Rambo-Claire. Hugo tells Jack that Kate can't go with them.
5. Speaking of Rambo-Claire, she is now with Jin who's leg has been caught in a trap. She's nuts. She thinks that the Others have her baby and will kill anyone just to get him (Aaron). She sews up Jin's wound (it was very graphic) and ties up one of the Others who ambushed Jin in the last episode.
Since she's nuts, Jin tells her the truth that Kate has her baby so that she will not kill the poor Other who was pleading for his life. She kills him anyway.
Afterwards, she asks why Jin told her that Kate had her baby. Realizing that she's nuts, Jin says that the Others do have her baby and she will help her go to the temple to find Aaron. She then says: If Kate really had her baby she would have killed her too. She's nuts!
Finally, her "friend" shows up: Flocke. Jin says: "John!" Then Rambo-Claire says: "That's not John, that's my friend."
Oh-kay.
6. Some bonding with Hugo and Jack while they go to the lighthouse. Jack admits to Hugo that he went back to the island because he was "broken" and was stupid enough to believe that the island would "fix" him.
7. At the lighthouse, they calibrate the mirror-thing, but Jack gets distracted by:
- Images he sees in the mirror when it touches points on the dial
- Names that are written on the dial (just like in the cave with Flocke and Sawyer last week) -- and one of them was "Shephard"
Jack demands that Hugo turn it to his name instead of the other number -- when it reaches his name the mirror shows his house when he was kid. (Which Hugo sees also).
Jack says that Jacob has been watching them all the time and he wants to know why. He asks Hugo to ask Jacob. Hugo can't do anything since Jacob just pops up. Trying to force something -- Jack destroys the mirrors.
8. Jacob finally shows up and talks to Hugo. He says that Jack needs to find out the reason why he is on the island for himself and he can look into the ocean if that's what it takes. He also said that a bad person is going to the temple so it's good that Hugo and Jack are at the lighthouse (segue the Rambo-Claire scene earlier).
And then we get a preview at the end for next week that "they can only show a couple of seconds but questions will be answered" -- which I give an eye roll to because at this point, I don't even know what questions need answering. LOL
Theory: Flocke and Jacob are recruiting.
