Lost Season 6 - Episode 11: Happily Ever After - Recap

Another fantastic episode of Lost. The most important episodes always involve Desmond Hume -- and throwing in one of our favorite characters into the mix made it even better.

Island!

Setting: Charles Widmore says that Desmond Hume is the only person he knows to have survived a "catastrophic electromagnetic event" -- and wants to test if he can do it again by subjecting him to some electro magnetism on Hydra Island.

They strap him to a chair -- Jin protests but can't do anything -- and the scientists let it rip... and in we go to Desmond's flash-sideways! OMG!

Flash-sideways!

Desmond is in LAX after arriving on Oceanic 815. He meets Hurley. He meets Claire. He meets that guy from Season 4 - George - who went crazy on Widmore's freighter because of too much time-travel (he's now his driver!)

Big reveal: Charles Widmore is Desmond's employer! And he's the right-hand man. Yikes!

Desmond is tasked by Widmore to get Charlie who just overdosed and got arrested -- so he can play bass for his wife's charity event (where his son is also supposed to play -- a mix of classic and rock music).

Desmond picks up Charlie. But Charlie is not himself -- he's going through some "life after death" moments and just doesn't care. He tells Desmond in the bar what he saw while he was about to die when he was choking on heroin on Oceanic 815 before Jack saved his life. He said he saw a girl and it was true love -- I am assuming now that it is Claire and their romance on the island.

Desmond does not believe. While driving back to Widmore, Charlie says "I can show you what I am talking about or you can get out of the car." Desmond laughs it off but then Charlie grabs the wheel and the car goes into the harbor!

We're in the water! Desmond manages to get out of the car, but Charlie is still down there. He takes some deep breaths and goes back down to save Charlie. And then we get a recreation of the "Not Penny's Boat" scene! In fact, Desmond gets a flashback of the scene! OMG!

He saves Charlie and they are now both in the hospital.

Desmond wants to find Charlie in the hospital, but the doctors want to give him a CAT scan because he hit his head. While in the machine, possibly because of all the rays, Desmond gets visions of Penny and their life together! He presses the panic button to get out of the machine and searches the hospital for Charlie.

He meets Jack!

Charlie comes running in! LOL Desmond catches him.

Charlie realizes that Desmond finally had a similar "feeling" like he did after Desmond asks him: "Who's Penny?"

Charlie: "If I were you, I'd stop worrying about me and start looking for Penny."

And look for Penny he does!

At the event of Charles Widmore's wife...

Big Reveal: Eloise is Widmore's wife!

Desmond tells her that he lost Charlie -- and contrary to Eloise having some sort of ultra-demanding image -- she says it's OK.

While looking around, Desmond overhears Penny's name being called on the guest list. He demands to see the complete list, but Eloise stops him! She then brings him aside to talk.

Eloise tells him to stop. And now some friggin words of wisdom from Eloise to help us understand what this flash-sideways is all about:

"Somebody has clearly affected the way you see things. This is a problem. It is in fact, a violation." (Violation??? What is she talking about?)

"Whatever you are doing, whatever it is you think you are looking for, you need to stop looking for it."

Desmond: "Do you know what I am looking for Mrs. Widmore?"

"I don't know why you are looking for anything. You have the perfect life. On top of it, you've managed to attain the thing you wanted more than anything: my husband's approval." (OMG!)

Desmond: "How do you know what I want?"

"Because I bloody do!"

Desmond says that he needs to see the list or she needs to tell him why he can't.

"You can't because you're not ready yet Desmond." And she leaves him!

He goes back to the car, takes a drink, then someone knocks on the car window.

Big Reveal: "Mr. Hume, my name is Daniel... Daniel Widmore... we need to talk."

OMG. I just died and had my own flash-sideways.

Daniel and Desmond talk. They talk about love at first sight -- just as Charlie was talking about Claire in the bar. Passing thought: Lost is all about love? Who knew!

Daniel says that after he saw the girl he felt he had already loved, he wrote in his journal the next day. It was full of quantum mechanics equations!

"What is it?" Desmond asks.

"I'm a musician, I have no idea." (OMG OMG OMG)

Daniel says that his friend told him that those equations were "so advanced" only someone who had studied physics their entire life could have come up with them.

"So what did he mean?"

And now some words of wisdom from Daniel Faraday:

"Imagine something terrible was going to happen, something catastrophic, and the only way to stop it from happening was by releasing a huge amount of energy, like setting off a nuclear bomb."

Desmond: "You want to set off a nuclear bomb?"

"Listen, what if, all this wasn't supposed to be our life. We had some other life. For some reason we changed things. I don't want to set off a nuclear bomb Mr. Hume. I think I already did."

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG

Desmond doesn't believe and is about to leave but...

"Why did you ask my mother about a woman named Penny?" Pause. "It happened to you too didn't it? You felt it."

Desmond: "I don't know what I felt."

"Yes you do. You felt love."

Desmond says it's impossible. He doesn't know if she exists, she's an idea.

"No, Mr. Hume. She's my half-sister. And I can tell you exactly when and where you can find her."

WOW!

And then we get a recreation of when Desmond first met Jack in the stadium! But this time Penny is running.

Desmond and Penny meet for the very first time in the flash-sideways.

He shakes her hand... and we are back on the island!

Island!

Desmond wakes up. Widmore and the scientists come in. He was out for a few seconds only!

He gets up. He looks happy?

"I understand. You told me you brought me to this island to do something very important... when do we start?"

OMG!

The scientists are walking with Desmond and they get ambushed by Sayid!

Sayid tells the woman with glasses: "Run."

"Desmond, I don't have time to explain but these people are extremely dangerous. We need to go now."

"Why of course, lead the way."

What? Desmond and Sayid are both emotionless? What's going on here???

Flash-sideways!

Desmond wakes up. Apparently, he had fainted when he touched Penny's hand. He asks her for a date, and she says yes.

He goes back to the car.

George the driver asks if he found what he was looking for and Desmond says yes. George offers: "If there's anything else I can do for you Mr. Hume, you just name it."

Desmond: "There is one thing George. Can you get me the manifest from Oceanic 815? I need to show them something."

Wow.

I love Lost. This was so so so good.
