'Longmire' Possibly Returning For Fourth Season on Netflix

Although Longmire was one of A&E's more popular shows, the network still decided to cancel the series earlier this year after three seasons. The older-skewing demographic was presumably not as valuable to advertisers, which meant the show wouldn't be as profitable for the network as, say, Bates Motel. But when you're Netflix, advertisers don't matter. So it's no surprise that if the show was to survive cancellation, Netflix was probably going to be the way.

Netflix is reportedly in negotiations to resurrect Longmire for a fourth season. However, Deadline stresses caution for fans of the show, since there is still a chance a final deal might not be reached. But sources are hopeful that both Netflix and series producer Warner Horizon will reach an agreement to bring the show back, with both sides considering a production start date in March.

If Longmire comes back, this wouldn't be the first canceled cable drama Netflix revived, as The Killing was brought back for a fourth and final season after being axed by AMC. So there is certainly cause for fans to be encouraged, as their passionate campaigning looks to be paying off. And deservedly so. Longmire is a compelling series, and it's got a great cast, between Robert Taylor, Lou Diamond Phillips and the terrific Katee Sackhoff, who should be a way bigger star than she is. And it's got a talented crew behind the camera as well, from co-star/director Peter Weller (the original Robocop himself!) to writers Tony Tost and Sarah Nicole Jones (who's dedicated her talents this season to ABC's Forever). In short, this is pretty fantastic news to fans of good television who miss dramas with a Western flavor.
