Little Mix, the vocal quartet that became the first group to win The X Factor UK, has broken the chart record set by The Spice Girls, as their debut album, DNA, has reached No. 4 on the Billboard 200 chart. This marks the highest charting ever for a debut album from a British female pop group, toppling the No. 6 debut of Spice in 1997.
Led by the single "Wings," which reached No. 26 on the Pop Songs airplay chart (known as Mainstream Top 40 in Billboard parlance), DNA has been a massive success both in the UK and in the US, charting the highest debut for any female group since Danity Kane's self-titled debut in 2006. DNA enters the charts with 50,000 units sold for the week ending June 2, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
The quartet (comprised of Jesy Nelson, Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinncok and Jade Thirlwall) will make its U.S. television debut this Friday, June 7, on ABC's Good Morning America. Little Mix will be performing as part of the morning show's annual Summer Concert Series. The group will then appear on ABC's Live With Kelly & Michael three days later, on Monday, June 10.
