Liam Neeson Says 'Taken 3' Will Be the Last in the Series
Liam Neeson is confirmed to star in a third Taken movie, but the action star is vowing that there won't be any more after this one.
In an interview with USA Today, Neeson revealed that Taken 3 is likely to be the last in the series, in which he stars as former CIA operative Bryan Mills.
"I think this is the end," says the star, essentially taking possibility of a Taken 4 off the table, which is just as well since there are only so many times a guy can have various family members abducted by Albanians. Of course, the question now is: after having his daughter abducted in the first movie, and his wife abducted in the second, who gets taken in the third?
"I have to go on the run, I’ll put it that way, from the not-so-lawful types and the lawful authorities," Neeson says. "Bryan Mills serves his country faithfully, but now even they are after him."
So yeah...looks like Mills himself is the one at risk of getting taken this time, even though he was briefly taken in the second movie. However, that's not the only news coming out of the interview: the third Taken movie will apparently be titled Tak3n. Yes, much like Se7en and 2 Fast 2 Furious, the title is getting stylized to replace letters with numbers, because reasons. At the very least, the movie seems to be taking a tongue-in-cheek view of itself, as these films get further away from the willing suspension of disbelief required to make them work. But as these movies embrace the popcorn flick dynamic, they have the potential to fun in a way action movies just aren't anymore, as Liam Neeson goes around beating the living hell out of bad guys while generally being the badass grandpa we never had.
So count us excited for Tak3n, even with that silly title. The movie, co-starring Oscar winner Forest Whitaker, hits theaters on January 9th.
But are you up for another Taken? Has the series overstayed its welcome? Or is this the right time to end it? Sound off in the comments!
