Leslie Mann Joins 'National Lampoon's Vacation' Reboot

Leslie Mann is following up the success of The Other Woman by joining the cast of the upcoming National Lampoon's Vacation reboot from New Line Cinema.

Of course, calling it a "reboot" is a bit of a misnomer, since it follows from the continuity of the original 1980s film series, making this more of a sequel. The story centers on Ed Helms as Rusty Griswold, the now-adult son of Clark Griswold, Chevy Chase's character from the 1983 film and its sequels. Inspired by the trips of his youth, Rusty decides to take his own family on a vacation, which goes about as well as you might expect for a Griswold.

Mann will play Audrey Griswold, Rusty's grown-up sister, who was played by Dana Barron in the original 1983 film. She joins a cast that includes Christina Applegate, Beverly D’Angelo (returning as family matriarch Ellen Griswold), and Chevy Chase himself, along with newcomers Skyler Gisondo and Steele Stebbins as Rusty's sons. In addition, Chris Hemsworth and Charlie Day are in talks for roles in the film.

Shooting is scheduled to begin next week in Louisiana from a script by writers/co-directors John Francis Daley (Bones, Freaks and Geeks) and Jonathan Goldstein, both of whom will be making their directorial debut on the project.

No release date for the reboot/sequel has been announced, but in the world of comedy reboots, sequels, and remakes, this really isn't the worst idea in the world for a franchise revival. Maybe if this is a success, we can get a sequel to Christmas Vacation (i.e., the best of the entire franchise).
