Spock himself, Leonard Nimoy, has been diagnoses with a lung disease known as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. We wish him all the best. May he live long and prosper!
The actor tweeted of his diagnosis:

The disease itself (caused by smoking) makes it incredibly difficult to breath and is known to get progressively worse over time.
82-year-old Nimoy retired from attending Star Trek conventions in 2011 and had his last television role on Fringe playing the brilliant yet nefarious Dr. William Bell.
Even though he announced his retirement from acting in 2010, he was still willing to reprise his role for the show's series finale in 2012 and was Spock once more for Star Trek Into Darkness just last year.
All the best to him!
