'LEGO Movie' Sequel Release Date Announced

The most successful film of the year so far, Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow's The LEGO Movie, is already en route to becoming the next major animated film franchise.

But when can we expect to return to the LEGO Universe?

Warner Bros. has confirmed that the sequel to The LEGO Movie will hit theaters on May 26, 2017. No confirmation on which actors are expected to return, but I'd be surprised if anything about the formula was changed, including having Phil Lord & Christopher Miller return to both write the screenplay and direct. The film is already a bonafide blockbuster, having crossed $200 million worldwide on Wednesday after a mammoth $69 million opening weekend. Moreover, the film is projected to take the No. 1 spot at the weekend box office for the third weekend in a row, provided it can withstand competition from newcomer Pompeii.

In short, LEGO is on the rise. You know, like...more so.
