'Lego Movie' Filmmakers in Talks for 'Ghostbusters 3'

With news of Ivan Reitman backing out of Ghostbusters 3 due to the death of good friend Harold Ramis comes the question of whom the studio will find to replace him. However, the search for a new filmmaker to helm the project might not be as drawn-out as expected.

Fresh off the massive success of The LEGO Movie, directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are reportedly in talks to direct Ghostbusters 3 for Sony Pictures. If true, the move makes a lot of sense, since Lord and Miller are hot properties on the Sony lot. They not only directed the hit film 21 Jump Street, starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill, but they also helmed its upcoming sequel 22 Jump Street. So if you enjoyed any those films, this is pretty much the perfect duo to get behind the camera to direct some ghostbusting.

Their role in the sequel has not yet been confirmed, although it's likely Sony will be deciding on director(s) soon, since Ghostbusters 3 is expected to start production as early as this fall in New York. Of course, an early 2015 start date is much more likely, but that doesn't change the time-sensitive nature of Sony's search for a director. And hey, I'd argue Lord and Miller are as good for the job as just about any comedy directors Sony could find, so I say give'em the shot.

But what do you think? Right choice or wrong duo? Sound off in the comments!
