Leave Ciara Alone!
The urban net was on fire earlier this week when a petition surfaced online to stop R&B singer Ciara from making music. I'm not laughing though. But should I?
Unlike some of the other flops people have compared her to (i.e. Teairra Mari, Ashanti, Cassie, Amerie, the list goes on...), Ciara was once actually a global superstar. Her debut album was certified 3x Platinum in the U.S., and the aformented, not to mention the likes of Keri Hilsons and Kelly Rowlands have not even reached this feat. Most of them haven't even gotten past Gold. Petition or no petition, "Goodies" and "1,2 Step" will go down as club and dance hits, and two of the biggest songs to come out of the mid-decade. Not to mention, the she was the First Lady of Crunk. That doesn't mean anything? Okay...as you were.

But no, Ciara collected numerous worldwide #1's globally with the songs. Did she suffer a sophomore slump. No? Her second album also went Platinum and at this point the diva had become a household name. People called the third go round, "Fantasy Ride" a flop. Oh, selling 88,000 is a flop with R&B singers these days can barely net 50? Securing a global top ten with Justin Timberlake? Ok.

But I'm stuck in the past, lets fast forward to the end of 2010 with the hit, yes I said HIT single "Ride." Monica failed to appear on the Hot 100 this year with her album. Kelly Rowland scored with "Motivation" and Keri did the "Pretty Girl Rock" for a while, but yeah let the world give them kudos. Meanwhile we'll just forget the fact that Kelly had a string of flop singles before and after that thit and Keri is just well....not Beyonce and for that fact, not Ciara. Ciara scored a #1 R&B hit with Ride spending forever in the R&B/Hip-Hop Singles top 5, as well as hitting #44 on Billboard. A feat for an R&B star, I might add. The album debuted at #44 on the Billboard 200. Haters went insane, but do we not know that the next week, artists who sold almost less than half of what she did in her first week were in the top 20?

Granted she didn't get her promo, she more singles flopped and she was classified as basic. Dropped and L.A. Reid came in with shining armor, we think that everything is ok. Well then "Sweat" seemingly dropped off the face of the Earth. People didn't see the single when it premiered but when nothing else happened everyone was on her case. Oh, but Kelly Rowland had three attempts at singles before Motivation? Ok...

What I'm trying to say its. Call Ciara basic if you want. We have forgotten that she is a multi-platinum recording artist? If you do, just call every other R&B singer in the business basic as well, other than Beyonce.
It will be Ok C-Nation, just wait.
